Propshaft replacement
Looking at the collapsed state of the propshaft centre bearing rubber I am surprised that there wasn't any vibration whilst driving
Glad I went for a replacement prop as the rear UJ was tight and there was play in the front and centre joints - to be expected at 150k
No more clunking when it's changing gears

Ideally you are supposed to replace them but I recall this question being asked in the past and the answer was yes. I can't recall the torque setting.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

I refitted the old bolts when I did mine
Torque wrench settings from a Haynes manual are
73nm transfer box end flange bolts
150nm rear diff flange bolts
30nm Centre bearing bolts
The Haynes manual actually says not to reuse the rear diff flange bolts and doesn't say anything about the transfer box end bolts
I might be ordering some new ones Current:

Thanks again to everyone, I'll be fitting the new prop on Sunday as the weather is going to be better.
Cheers

The propshaft bolts are all really tight to undo so make sure you use a decent sized bar and you also have a good socket that fits the bolts so they don't round off
Release the handbrake and spin the prop then get your helper to press the brake pedal when you undo each bolt
If you only have the rear on axle stands make sure the car is well chocked either side of the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from possibly rolling and falling of the stands Current:

That's great, I've got a set in my tool box, so fingers crossed it all goes well as myself and the family are traveling from Northampton to Loch ness and the Highlands next Saturday morning.
Thanks.

We traveled over from the Isle of Man last year in my D3 and we travelled up to Scotland and stayed at Loch Lomond then travelled around the Trossachs National Park - we did close on a 1000 miles and the D3 never missed a beat, best and most comfortable vehicle for travelling with a family enjoy you holidayCurrent:

Good Friday Prop!
Just back from a few foreign trips to a brake pad message and noticed whilst i had the car up there was a split in the centre prop bearing (for a change had the cover off just to check, so swapped the pads and the prop this morning!
Pleased i went the higher cost option for a replacement prop as both ends feel really notchy and the centre bearing feels terrible. The actual rubber is perished but not as bad as some ive seen in the pictures of others
Put new rear bolts on for good measure as theres a lot of torque on them, so not going to risk used ones back on.
Ironically I was thinking of swapping her for a D4, but all it does is travel to and from airports and sit in the carparks for others to open their doors against I think shes going to have a reprieve!
Once again another few quid saved!Must stop buying shiny toys....
