Protected No Claims

You may have read I've had some scum damage my D4
http://www.disco4.com/forum/topic70898.html

But wondering whether to go through insurance or pay up myself.

I've got 'protected no claims' but need to understand how that works.

OK, if I stay with same insurer upon renewal, I can see it working.
But surely if I were to move insurers [which I was planning to do] they'll ask me about previous incidents and look upon this a claim and penalise me for it ... 'protected no claims' or not!

How does this work - is it 'protected claims' provided you stay with the same insurer?

How do you think I feel Neutral

Accidental damage is one thing .....
..I don't even accept that as in my view there's no such thing as an 'acciden't ...
... it's 'carelessness' [at the very least].
'Accident' is just a word that covers that event!

However when something is done in purpose ....
.. well that's a completely different thing and far far more agrieving in my situationn. Evil or Very Mad

Just got my local LR dealers quote through and there's is much better at a smidgen under £500.
But that's me glueing the lamp guard back together and LR said they'd buff out the tailgate scratches FOC.

As my excess is £350 [£200 compulsory and £150 voluntary] that's the reason I'm now questioning whether to go through insurance or stump up myself.

No matter what I do, it'll feel just like chucking £500/£350 of fivers out of the window. Evil or Very Mad

My understanding is that the bit you are protecting is the no claims discount (ie the % you get off). If you have a claim then you will still get that % off of the premium, but that initial premium will be higher.

No claims bonus is a load of tosh anyway.
Got 90% no claims discount from AXA, premium was £ 383
Are they really telling me if i had 0 no claims it would be nearly £4K , of course not, done a comparison online with 0 no claims premium was £ 942

the no claims discount doent apply to all of the charge, only part of it.

So, if you have an accident, make a claim or someone makes a claim against you, then that is seen as a risk and your premium can still go up, even if you have protected no claims and there was no damage to your vehicle !- best way to avioid it is not to involve the insurance company
