Prove there are reliable D3's out there - please vote?!

Can you help to give me some ammo to convince myself to buy one - I like the car but am scared of spending my own money on one and it breaking down regulalry.

I'm going to try and be clever and run a vote.

I know you are all happy with them in the sense that they are fantastic cars that do the job well, but I've never known so much talk about rejecting cars and breakdowns.

I work on the basis that you only really hear about the problems, and that someone isn't going to post a message saying the car has been reliable all month and nothing has gone wrong!

Hope this doesn't offend anyone, and I don't work for a magazine or anything, I am just still trying to decide on what to buy next and worried about this issue.

Thanks

Paul

Paul, I have a vehicle collected in September, bar one 'issue' - which I regard as minor, i.e. it didn't stop me driving / enjoying / offroading it, no problems at all, what's more, i'd buy another one when it's time to change. This is nothing to do with brand loyalty, but to do with wanting the most capable, reliable, enjoyable bit of kit in it's class. Yes, i've owned LR's before, but i've also owned other vehicles as well, each one has been at, or near the top of its class purely so that I can rely on it when needed.
The reason I chose a Disco3 was that: a)I'm at a stage where I can choose to suit my lifestle & interests b)I could afford it (der... Embarassed ) c) I had been browsing Disco3.co.uk for an informed opinion for a few months prior to ordering ....yer, I know.... ex-lurker... Embarassed Embarassed Wink , c1)not sure why, but I tend to value the opinions of people who contibute freely and with no commercial gain or interest and finally, d) nothing else can touch it for capacity, ability and versatility - including a RRS Wink

Real opinions are what I'm after.... I'm a lurker and want to spend 35k of hard earned wedge on the best of bread not a compromise, but already one vote for "stop I want to get off"!!

My car hasn't had any issues for over 10K miles now. My parents had the same issue (compressor) and theres has been fine too but they only do a small milage and a mate bought a base 7 seater he is looking to upgrade to an S but has had no issues. The latter 2 aren't on line so can't vote.

Nearly a year later the car still gives me a big grin - what more can I say.

Mine is a very early example, now 31k miles. No issues worth worrying about since 8500 miles. Its a bit juicy, but its worth it.

My First D3 although suffering from a paint problem was mechanically and electrically perfect, my second D3 has superb paint work and no mechanical or electrical faults.

Mine is an early one and is mostly reliable (fingers crossed) apart from error messages now.

These are mainly suspension related, which seem to dissapear on a reeboot. However I am still negotiating wrt swapping this early D3 for a new one.

In summary early ones can be problematical, but awesome when functioning @ 100%, and still having another.

Are you negotiating a swap based on problems suffered, or are you just fancying a newer one?

I am seeing my dealer next week re the second one I have rejected. That said ,and armed with good advice from the members here ,I will see what wonderous terms they will offer me for a new one and then take it straight to another dealer. It seems to be the view that there is a massive range of abilities across to dealer network, not to mention prices for the same job.
I will not be beaten, when all is well the D3 is miles better than anything else in it's class.

Go for it Thumbs Up
I have had BM's & Mercs for years and NOTHING comes close to the D3
I have had a faulty air con - fixed - compressor failure - fixed and height sensor failure on the suspension - fixed
I had a BM that was off the road for weeks with numerous faults - could not wait to get rid and last car - Merc - had to have the whole loom replaced due to numerous electrics failures - so all is relative - but BM's & Mercs do not have the brand loyalty or interest that inspires owners to spend the time to write about every little detail of their cars
Every time I get in my Disco I have a smile on my face - and that is the definitive reason why you should take the plunge
Now Golf GTI PP, 7 speed DSG.
Ex D3 and D4
