Purchasing D4 advice: Con rod journals |
|
Considering a D4. I have read about the con rod journals going out on some unlucky TDV6 owners. Is it true that this problem has been corrected in 2012, so 2013+ models would not be affected? What year did the 8sp gearbox become standard on the TD/SD V6? Do some, or all, 8sp no longer have the 2-speed transfer case? Which model(s) have the optional rear locking diff?
Anything else I should know?
Thanks

Wouldn’t say it has been corrected as later models on here have suffered.
62 plates onwards will be 8 speed. Both my 8 speeds had/have the 2 speed transfer box.
No models had the rear locking diff as standard, option only and very rare.

In the US the locking rear differential came in a “HD package” (Heavy Duty) which also included a full size spare tire. Not sure whether a similar option was used in UK/EU or something else.
You should be able to check the config from JLR TOPIx if you have the prospect vehicle’s VIN.

Thanks for the replies
So even the latest D4 (2013+) have con-rod shell bearing issues as well as cranks snapping (related?)?
