Pyrenees with a camping trailer

As per the title really, has anyone completed a traverse of the Pyrenees with a trailer? We are looking at doing the Vibraction Route 5 over the Pyrenees in September with the Disco and the offroad camping trailer. Disco is well prepped duratracs, well serviced, sump guard, rock sliders etc, as is the trailer. I drive offroad a fair bit for a living so not concerned with a bit of technical, but any advice would be greatfully received. Thanks all Thumbs Up

generally speaking, the only time a trailer would be an issue, is reversing back down a track that may be closed or if theres been a landslide or similar

generally, the vibraction books take good tracks and where there are 4x4 only sections, you should be able to walk those to check suitability.m

^ yup. Done that route in Defender and Disco 4 - without trailer - but all pretty straightforwards, even though we had to build up the road once or twice. But we also had a ½ mile reverse at one stage, so get good at doing that with your trailer.....

nothing on the route that the combo won't do tho.

Great, thank you for that. Slow and steady with a spotter behind means we should be able to reverse out of the way!! SWMBO drives horse transporters so is probably better at it than me!! Next question, just go with the Vibraction roadbook, use a GPS app with the waypoints loaded from Vibraction? Which app? Or use the Wikilocs route?

Vibraction routebook if it’s your first time. They’re very useful and can stop you from going down tracks you shouldn’t.
Some of the wikiloc routes have tarmac sections and some are for bikes so take some and compare when you’re there.

Apps
Memory Map
Gaia
You’ll soon get the hang of the tracks and comparing the map for new tracks. 👍

All Vibraction roadbooks will have options for any section that is deemed "technical". Whilst I have never found that to mean impassable there are some sections where I wouldn't want to have a trailer with me. But most of it should be doable.

Some routes we have been along in the last couple of years haven't been driven for a while which meant for plenty of gardening, some tree winching and log chopping...

Before you head off just take a quick look at their website as there is feedback from RB users if they have found any issues, obstacles etc.

To add to Bodsy's reply - I use Land (a.k.a CompeGPS) mapping software with an external GPS receiver into a Windows PC. Good map coverage available from the Land shop as well.

We used Gaia but you have to spend time getting the right maps downloaded first. Google maps with a decent data allowance is remarkably useful too. GPX via Vibraction. Ensure your iPad or whatever does actually have a gps chip..... most don't and you can't pair to smartphone to get gps, but you can to the Garmin GLO if you need to.

edited to add: an effective strategy we found was to head off, drive however far you felt comfortable with, and then about 2-3pm use google maps and search for 'campsite' or miller, which brings up a number near you, and you can then leave the route, head somewhere for facilities, beers, swimming pool etc, and rejoin next day. Especially useful if you have kids with you. Spanish sites tended to be cheaper than French ones.
