A quest for dimensions

A fairly simple question, if you have a D3 to hand, and very hard to answer if not.....
How large is the "void" that is occupied by the folded third row of seats (below the floor)?
And a little follow on question, how hard is it to remove the third row seats? - The thought is that it will make a useful hidden storage area for things like tool kit etc. that normally end up in the back and not hidden when the load area cover is down, or all the seats are flat. I'm not likely to use the 3rd row of seats very often (if ever)

TIA

Rob

I'm sure its been done. The seats should be easy to remove, complete with frame and mechanism. I imagine it leaves a shallow but large recess.

These may help....

Don't know the exact dimensions but the space is the size of the seats and (from memory) about 4" deep
The seats are a bit of a pain to remove unless you can work out a way of removing them separately, when we took mine out they came out together, are awkward, heavy (probably about 70-80kg) and 'flop' around a lot, a ratchet strap holding the bases against the backs helps to keep them on one piece

ISTR after helping to remove Slimers that there is reasonable storage ...its tapered though as the seat backs are thinner than the seat bases ...so I would say roughly 5 inches depth growing to 7 inches depth x the width of the seat bay Wink

I'm only laughing because your idea of 4 inches is somewhat different to my idea of 5 and 7 inches Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Thanks guys, I'm sure the tip about the ratchet strap will be forgotten and re-learned.
Some planning ahead I notice, the First Aid box and spirit level were obviously placed to give indications of the size of the hole.
From the pics I see I will need a new "flat" tool box rather than the "tall" one that lives in the P38 spare wheel hole that might be an "improment", because everyting tool I look for is at the bottom of the box....
