SWMBO has mine at the moment so i can't check but my back gets lovely and warm which is great because I suffer with a bad back so when I am freezing cold it stops it locking up

Oh, my back does get warm... But only after quite a while and I do get the feeling that this is the warmth from the cushion seeping up in the back rather than because of some warming element in the back opf the seat...

In mine (2006 TDV6 HSE) it definitely heats both lower back and your bum.

ditto in the 'S' Smile

I think Gurvan is correct though. Elements in seat base and heat travel up to your back after a few mins.

Mind you... as there is a gap between the seat base and seat back (of course to allow it to move independently) there may well be elements in the seat back too.

Middle row heaters are only in the base though for sure.
