A Few Questions

Hello there,

I'd like to start by thanking everyone on this forum as from browsing it as a guest there is such a wealth of information and knowledge it is simply brilliant, I have learnt lots, but alas I still have a few questions.

I have recently purchased my discovery 4 and I have a few upgrades/modifications I would like to do with it, some of which I have unfortunately been unable to find the answer to and hence I'm asking.

1) I am looking to upgrade sone standard halogen bulbs to led's. I've already swapped my puddle lights for led's, just half**ds 501 led 5w. They're very good a nice white light. I'm looking to swap my number plate lights now I did consider these and went to see how the look but they don't fit in the housing!

So, question no. 1....
What would be a good choice for led number plate lights, I'm also going to get led front indicator lights (recommended in another thread) but what about side repeaters?

Anyway question 2

I have just bought a set of xenon headlights off an hse model (fairy lights present) when I program it what do I need to do to activate said lights? I'm also going to replace the standard halogen bulb with a night breaker.

Question 3, don't worry nearly there

I'm looking into the rear climate control. I removed the rear light unit where the controls would be and there is a bit of wiring loom with a spare (currently unused) connector taped up. If this is for the controls would it be a straight swap and a program?

Now finally, Driver memory seat?

The previous owner had the electric seat and armrest pack option. This obviously gives motorised adjustment (not steering column) I've had a look under the seat, after fighting with the front panel (ouch), and can't see any spare connectors. I wanted to have a look behind the door handle but for the life of me can't get the trim off. Now if there is a wiring loom in place could a memory seat ecu be fitted with a door handle with appropriate switches and a quick program?

I do apologise for my less than concise questioning. I would be great full for any information

Thank you in advance

Joe

Welcome Joe - I can't help with any of your questions as I've only had mine for a few weeks too. But you are right - so much info on here and helpful people too, sure one of them will be along in a minute.

For question 2 you will need a tool like the IID tool or Nanocom to change the car's configuration to tell it that xenon lights are present. (on a D4, unlike a D3 the xenon lights will not work at all until the config change is made).

Alternatively if you don't want to buy the equipment to make that config change yourself many of the forum sponsors could quickly and easily do it for you.

Thanks very much guys,

Those bulbs look very good and they're reasonably priced.

I was planning on getting a gap bt IID tool. So when I configure the Ccf to enable xenon it will also enable the fairy lights?

Cheers for the info so far this is very interesting.

The fairy lights work (as sidelights obviously) without config changes. It's the operation of the xenon that requires the config change.

Ah got you.

Still trying to work out this door trim spent the last 2 hours trying to lever it off as if it were pressure/Spring clips and slide it towards the back of the car trying lots of ways with no luck.

Never taken the door cards off so sorry can't help on that one.

On the rear air con what I can say is that there is a huge amount of extra stuff other than the controls in the roof and the wiring that you are looking for. You would need to add all the third row air vents and air ducting, there is a large fan unit/cooler that goes in the rear passenger side panel and of course run aircon pipes from the front to the rear.

It would be a huge job; I'm sure it could be done but it certainly wouldn't be for the faint hearted and I don't recall ever seeing anyone having done it.

Ah, that stops tags one right there, I didn't realise there was ducting and vents for the third row I thought the controls were purely for the 2nd row. Damn, never mind.

I cant find an electronic copy of the guide at the mo but can scan and email you it tomorrow if you want? from memory, remove tweeter housing (and inevitably break a clip), remove the puddle light and disconnect wiring, remove the circular tab behind the door release lever and remove screw, remove the circular tab on the edge of the door card (B pillar end) and remove screw, prise off the chrome door handle ends, they sort of pull up and out, remove 2 screws behind each, remove screws from door card, think there are 2 along the pocket, then I think just pop the door card from its plastic retainers. then unclip the wiring and the door handle release cable.

Edited to add puddle light removal and door handle cable. I have the electronic guide now but cant get to a pdf editing machine at the mo.

Cheers for that. Yes please would love a copy out would be very useful. So I'll have to remove the entire door card is what your saying? That's fine but if i do end up fitting the memory unit will i be able to remove the door handle surround from the door card itself? Once again thanks very much. And I'll pm you my email address if you need it.

I have just purchased a detachable tow bar, I looked on the official lr website and there is a tow bar storage. Now at £100 I would like to know what I'm getting for that, if anyone has any pics of it that would be great. I have a 7 seater so it's stored behind the n/s rear light unit, behind a panel. If I'm correct. Confused

Typical, after posting this minutes later I have found a pic of this in the fs section, unfortunately sold. Nice to see it but £100 seems a little steep, especially considering I didn't pay much more for the hitch itself!

I have fitted a light module into the boot light 6x2 in warm white (3000k) very close to halogen colour and keeps the warm look with my almond leather. It was supplied by the fantastic people at hids4u. Great addition with much more light.

I'm looking at fitting the leather top cover to the rotary shifter.

Part no. VPLSS0142

I'm just not sure who to remove the existing plastic top. Is it clipped or stuck down? I've got a workshop manual but it has a mix between pre 2012 ie stick selector and my late 2012 (62) rotary shifter.

Any info on its removal welcome.

I'd also like to know if it's possible to change the LEDs in the rotary shifter unit. I'd like to change the colour of the reverse, neutral, drive and sport led. But only if it's possible of course!

Cheers in advance and for the advice already received.

Forget about the towbar stowage. Massively expensive for what it actually is (expanded polystyrene). Just put the bar in a bag and stow where convenient.
