Quick Fuel Pump Question

2006 LR3 4.4 gas engine. Replaced fuel pump and senders but have a hose I can't figure where it goes. I'm sure it clips where i have it in the picture but does it connect to anything on this end or is it a vent and stays open?

Since I put everything back together I'm having an intermittent starting issue with no logical codes coming up. The engine turns over fine and sometimes fires up immediatly and sometimes takes 3 or more tries. Almost like it's fuel starved. When I put the new Beck Arnley pump in I remember part of the assembley was a round thing maybe an inch in diameter and 2 inches long that I vaguely remember the factory pump assembly being seated like snapped in to the bottom of the tank that I coudln't get to snap back in so I left it somewhat loose. I can't seem to find detailed info in the manual on the fuel pump assembly and zooming in the pic in the manual is grainy. Anyone have any idea if whatever that thing is needs to be snapped into the bottom of the tank? I inserted a pic of what I think I remember it being.
