Quiescent Current
Just found out why my battery goes low every time I do not use my D3 for 3 or more days. I usually leave my keys on the car, then it takes continuous 410mA. When the keys are removed it takes only aprox. 10mA (15min's after the keys are removed)
All measuments where done with the bonnet open. Does anybody knows where these 5W's are goning when the keys are left? (the chime was already off, doors closed )TDV6 (Belgian) HSE '06

Charging the key maybe or is the car aware that the key is in range so the alarm or car is in some sort of limbo.In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Surely it is at risk of getting stolen My insurance would not pay out if the keys were not protected and it was stolen.

I know on mine (2007) that the SatNav screen and Radio don't go off until I remove the key - they remain active whilst the key is in position zero. This only occurs after I've started the engine once. Once the key is removed and re-inserted, all stays quiet until I turn it again. As such I'd have more circuits running than just the keyfob battery charger.
What current do you get if you remove and then re-insert the key?
Could it be that various systems remain awake for as long as the key is present after a drive?
My perhaps not too original advice would be to remove the key and lock it securely in a keysafe to save your battery
P.S. Maxim do you really leave the keys in the car when you leave it? I'd definitely not be covered by insurance if I did (It's in the small print) even if I left it in a locked garage.Dr. Ian Malcolm:

The renault espace's battery is killed by the navigation system when the keys are where they should be (outside of the car) and the car is not used for 14 days!
The dealer replaced a brand new battery, which we all thought was faulty, for free (guarantee) and the problem continued. After disconnecting the navigation, the problem was solved.

Yes I leave the keys in the car, while parked in my private (locked) garage. Otherwise "they" come to your bedroom and point a gun to you asking for the key's.
I also checked the insurance and they don't need the keys of your car as proof it is stolen.TDV6 (Belgian) HSE '06

You've got a good point there, maxim.
But maybe thieves look everywhere except in the car for the key, and than, when they can't find it, they point the gun at you.
Better hang the key in your hallway on a clearly visible place.

Yes, when the scrotes are that friendly I can see why you do it! If they're that desperate to take a car, I too would prefer they didn't come into the house.

Anyhow its the first car i have that kill's the battery bij leaving the key at '0' position in the startswitch. TDV6 (Belgian) HSE '06
