RAC Gold Warranty - Too good to be true...?

The 3 month RAC Gold Warranty that I got with my 2006 D3 will come to an end mid January. I have just got a letter from RAC inviting me to renew for a further 12 months including breakdown recovery for £234 or £23 per month x 10.

Reading the small print the warranty covers all major parts other than those usually excluded such as brake pads and tyres etc. Max claim of £1000 per occurance/fault.

EDIT: The information on this package is here: http://media.rac.co.uk/pdf/6071-rac-warranty.pdf

Has anyone got experience of this type of warranty as I am currently paying such an amount for breakdown only Question

Cheers Thumbs Up

I would have thought it doesnt take much though to hit a £1000 limit?

Yes i thought that too, but i guess £1000 toward any repair may be worth £23 per month inc breakdown?

Doesn't cover vehicles used off road. So does that mean that if I do a pay-play day or go laning and 6 months later my turbo goes, they would refuse the claim?

James, Greenlanning is not off road, you're driving on a road so you should be covered. How they prove that you were driving offroad and refuse to pay out I don't know. However it is all too easy for companies not to pay and then put the onus onto you to make them pay up. Personally I wouldn't risk it.

It depends as what they term "off road" - do they mean not on a surfaced road or do they mean quarries, ploughed fields etc.

Despite my best efforts, it's quite easy to see that I have been off road due to the amount of mud and crud stuck in those hard to reach places.

Didn't see a figure for labour rates either - so it's not much use if they will only pay £40/hr or something daft like that!

Mixed review here (old posts?) - http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum...r-Warranty
Seems like any warranty - its down to the small print and how hard you argue/state your case.

I had a quick look at this one and it seems that you have to have broken down, called them out, and been prevented from continuing your journey due to the breakdown. There are probably a lot of common faults where you can safely drive to a dealer / limp mode home that would probably be excluded as you 'could' continue your journey.
