Looks like engine oil and coolant mixing.

Thanks for the reply..
I’ve checked oil on dipstick, whilst I know this isn’t any sort of guarantee the oil on there is absolutely fine, so am leaning away from head gasket.
Had considered oil cooler,
Will try to look into that now, is that a big job to change?
Oddly, having just checked the black hose that comes off the reservoir and goes to the radiator, this still has clean coolant running from it..?2005 Disco3 HSE Auto 😁

It sounds like Your oil cooler is just starting to fail with only a small amount of oil leaking at the moment but it will get worse.
It's not too bad to repair if you can get the okl separator outAndrew

Thanks again!
What is the repair, is it a case of replacing as a unit the oil separator and cooler or are there parts that can be replaced in each?2005 Disco3 HSE Auto 😁

Yes the oil cooler sits at the top of the engine under the oil filter, the oil separator sits behind it and has to be removed to get the oil cooler out.
If you use the search function theres a how to video on this site.
The oil separator is quite tall and is hard to wiggle out but you can cut a bit off the bottom that makes it easier to fit back in again.
If you watch the video it explains it all very well.Andrew

That’s fantastic thank you!!
I assume having not noticed the oily coolant, the first symptom would have been a rise in running temperature? I wonder how far off that would have been..
I’m going to get a couple of quotes from some garages as not entirely sure I can do it or have the time to do it myself. Looks to be a pretty in depth job..2005 Disco3 HSE Auto 😁

I would get the garage to check it out properly first.
What normaly it gets worse and worse then you gave to not only have the oil cooler replaced you need to get the coolant bottle replaced and the engine cleaned out which can be a painAndrew

So just had the diagnostic back from the garage, 100% the EGR cooler apparently.
How do these operate, pretty sure the EGR’s on mine have been blanked.. will this make any difference to the coolers? One for each side, is that correct?2005 Disco3 HSE Auto 😁

That’s a better result and by the looks of it easier to blank the cooling side of the EGRs

No, will make no difference for the coolers, as a “standard” EGR blanking is only a metal plate who avoids recirculating exhaust gasses towards the inlet manifold...
So the coolers themselves are still fully functional...
Imho if one is leaking cooling fluid, simply replace it with another non leaking one... because rerouting or blanking the cooling circuit, will be trigger (unexpected) unwanted sideceffects elsewere, like overheating ... and therefore potential risk for damage and fireBest regards

Thanks for the replies, makes sense ref causing other problems.
Looks like it will be a pair of replacements. Probably makes sense that if one is gone to change both at same time. ( other mat not be far behind..?)2005 Disco3 HSE Auto 😁

Does anyone happen to know if there is anyway of determining if the problem will is EGR cooler or oil cooler without stripping down?
Reason i ask is the garage have said EGR coolers but are not sure which one so both need changing, which I absolutely agree with, but aside from that making it twice as expensive, it also makes me wonder if there is then any guarantee that it’s is actually the EGR cooler and not the oil cooler.
Any thoughts welcomed..
