jm , when you switched engine off , did you restart it before the red park light had extinguished ?

You could try open the bonnet, let the car go to sleep about 2 minutes, disconnecting the battery. Then leave it for 10 minutes, then touch Pos & Neg VEHICLE cables together, then reconnected them back to the battery.
If that doesn't work, then it might be gaffooo'd Bodsys Brake Bible
D4/D3 Remote FBH heat kits
BAS Remaps/ EGR Blank
Transmission Flush
Software updates/enabling
Clock/ SNOTM /3Flash / 4x4Info /BT Update /Service Reset/Error Codes / Gearbox Reset

My 08 Model XS does exactly the same - the cures mentioned above all work but I have found that the other way of curing the problem is to slap / tap or hit the dash board around the radio and this usually solves the problem.
The car is at the dealers today for the EGR valves to be done and I asked them to check for faults - they have told me that there aren't any so keep doing whatever fixes the problem.
Finally I think it is linked to the Bluetooth system - do you use the bluetooth? - as my phone also plays up when the radio has frozen out

my radio froze in the same way.. it was due to my wife's Blackberry cell phone. dealer said the Bluetooth'd phone had an incopatible program which caused the radio to freeze. since then, we do not link the Blackberry to the car... radio works fine.

If it happens again and you need a fix.
Similar post to Bodsy's but without getting your hands dirty or even worse ...
...the risk of electrocuting yourself.
Let your D3 go to sleep, then take the infotainment fuse out [behind glovebox].
Leave for 5 min then re-insert.
The CD/Radio will then go through a series of self checks.
Hopefully, all will be well again.

my whole dash froze (no radio, no screen menu etc) when the blutooth had a fit once. intitially it then went flat (screen stuck on) worked ok after jump start as effectively powered down.
decided thats not really the best way so next time i managed to disconnnect the blu tooth at the phone end and it then cleared and all worked again TDV6 HSE 2008.....as kindly specced right up by LR as demo ! fridge....yeh why not ?

too many issues with bluetooth connectivity... any possibility this is NOT related to the actual cell phones, but to a deficinet LR3 program??

i've the base model radio, no bluetooth and it frequently freezes up. cant even turn it off. removing the keys wont even turn it off. however starting the engine which causes a huge draw on the battery from the starter motor causes the radio to turn off for a split second and all is fine after that, till the next time.

The Base Radio is a big issue and frankly is a pile of carp!!!. Having owned 2 D3's both have had at least 3 units each but there's hope guys.............
Do an audio upgrade and replace it with a universal unit - Double din size looks Gr8 and has many more functions on it. Did mine two weeks ago and not looked back since
Looking to post a how to in the next week or so - its not a hard job and worth the effort and cost.

This has happened to me a few times if you remove fuse 53 for a minute or so it should work!

Same thing happened to me tonight.
Bluetooth was connected - recieved a call - then the phone icon on the radio display stayed on after the call was ended.
Radio / CD etc became disabled and the Sat Nav screen stayed illuminated even after a 10 min 'sleeping' period, and several on-off cycles.
Ended up taking out 'fuse 53' from behing the glove box .
All working fine now
