Radio switches off with low power message
I have recently bought a 2011 D4 and a couple of times this week I have been sat in the car with the engine off and the radio on and the radio has shut down with a message on the screen "shutting down, low power" and a picture of a battery.
I have been browsing the forum and found out about the secret screen and tonight I was travelling at 65mph (cruise control on) for about 10 miles. The lights and climate control were on and the battery reading on the screen was steady at 14.2 volts.
Is this a good voltage in those circumstances and could it be that as the car is new to me it may have been stood a while and the battery needs a good charge or is the radio shutting down an indication of something more significant?
Thank you in advance for any replies.

14.2V isn't the voltage of the battery, that's what the alternator was putting out at the time.
Best check the battery at the terminals with a multimeter after the car has been fully charged up then left overnight.

Had the same problem with my used 2010 D4 and running the radio with the engine off; actually it asked me in addition on the small screen to start the engine to recharge the battery but it didn't come to that any more...
Cold weather will expose a weak battery. You should exchange it before the electrics decide that they won't start the engine any more.

As suggested charge the battery for as long as possible & test the battery voltage.
If the battery hasn't been changed since new then a new battery could be required.
Search here for "Tanya", which will come up with specs & prices - they were 10% off a couple of weeks ago.
It would help if you would complete more detail in your profile about your location, those close by might well be in a position to help, now or later.
Good luck.

I'm pretty sure this is by design. My new 2017 Evoque does it. It's very annoying.____

If they are like my D3 20 minuets max on a fully charged battery and you will get that message. Disco's are heavy on battery power whithout the engine running, using the radio or not-beware It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

AFAIK this is by design and as happened with every LR I've owned from new IIRC
So annoying when you've opted for TV and park heating but can't use them because the nanny system shuts down every few minutes then refuses to restart unless engine switched on
I even tried using ctek when parked up between uses but made no difference - even auto stop start was affected by the nanny system
I have no such problems with the phev and can actually enjoy the preheat and radio when waiting for swmbo without having to restart Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
Most vehicles do it, well the ones I've driven, ten to fifteen minutes and you get the warning or just turns off depending on the vehicle design, Certainly my last five from LR have done it.
