RAI MPG help
Don't want to be that guy that asks the question that's been asked before but can't seem to find many user comments on the MPG figures . What are people experiencing after fitting that raised air intake ? Thinking of going away to some dusty environments and think it will be worth it and want to know if it's worth fitting and how easy it would be to install and uninstall if the mpg hit is that bad thanks .

Never noticed any difference, but it was over 10 years ago & memory isn't what it was.

Missed the bit about removing it, it fits with three bolts (two into the wing one into the top of the A pillar) into rivnuts, removal is as simply as undoing them, refitting the wing vent and maybe plugging the holes.==================================

Haha I get your point I had a v10 touareg before and didn't want to return to those mpg figures !
No difference to mpg!A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

I think Pete at BAS did some work looking into the benefits of different types of air filters and the impact they had on the engines ability to breath. I remember him saying that fitting a RAI had the effect of chocking the flow of air into the engine. Surely this must equate to increased fuel consumption? Bit like having a mucky air filter!

No experience of RAI on D3 but have had on a 200tdi Defender.
Genuine Safari unit, I fitted it and as soon as I hit a hill I could feel it was down on power, not by much but a 200tdi doesnt have much to start with!
Back down the hill, remove under bonnet plumbing and try again, back to normal, refit pipe and its down on power straight away.
I then contacted Safari who told me this, normally a RAI increases the amount of air entering the system due to ram air effect, now I can go back 25 odd years when they were first playing with this tech on motorbikes and Im sure they reckoned minimum speed for it to be effective was 140mph!
I would guess its the same on any car but the newer motors probably hide it better as they arent short of power in the first place.
On the upside you can do this and not worry about it, i should point out A its been deeper and B wet muddy nuts arent fun!
