The holes are not too bad, especially on my Java black it wont be noticed too easily once removed - if ever required.
Just a step back...... for interest a RAI here in SA from LR will cost a ridiculous £450. It seems there is a serious business opportunity for someone to sell parts to us here in SA

As has been said many times on the forum...
The RAI is a RAiSED AIR INTAKE (RAI) and NOT a SNORKEL.
Thus ALL it does is RAISE the air intake to the top of the roof to help avoid dragging in dusty / dirty air not water per say.
A snorkel is used by scuba divers and is sealed (by the human equivalent of an air intake) al the way to the top where air is allowed in... the same as a snorkel on an off road vehicle.
By its very nature and fixture to the side of the wing, a raised air intake will help a great deal in keep most of the water out for a while, and even then will only allow a slow intake of water, far far less than if it were not there. If you seal it around the metal fixing plate, you can keep a bit more water out for longer.
Its a great compromise and requires far less modification to the external and internal air intake pipe work. Unless your D3 is silver or some light metallic colour, fixing the holes where the rain gets in ( ) is not as expensive as on lighter colours where the whole wing and part of the door will have to be repainted in order to match and blend in the new colour coat.

I have fitted both to my D3's over a period of time the RAI looks good but is ok, in my humble opinion but the Safari Snorkel is way better and thats staying on! Steve
