She certainly is one of a kind ! She often brings the evidence home Laughing and she’s not keen on anything coming into “her garden” (covers about a square mile) up to and including small children Rolling with laughter very clever cat as well, certainly has me well trained Whistle

Any kind of terrier will sort rats out provided it can get to them.. might be harder if they disappear into a neighbours garden.

Get yourself a couple of Jack Russells . They will make short work of them. I’m sure there used to be an informal organisation that would come with their Jack Russells and clear the place out for you. The most efficient rat killers I have ever seen were a pair of Mongoose. Fast and deadly but not your most domesticated animal by a long shot.

Saying that my old bichon , milly useto make short work of any mice

Watched a great video the other day from a utuber called “ Joseph carter the mink man “ , has half a dozen dogs and cleared a farm of nearly 500 x rats , really impressive to watch

My old cat would sit there and watch any mouse that came into the garden , lol

Indeed they have different hiding areas

This all stated some years ago, old neighbour would keep newspaper and dog food in one of the brick sheds , bottom of the door had a gap of some 4 x inches , mice then started to build a nest in there , they burrowed under his concrete slab in the shed , was only evident where they were after he moved out

Mice dug there way through the cavity wall from next door to under my kitchen sink , then within a few months they all disappeared , only because the rats appeared , they made a nest next door under an old decking

New neighbours moved in , removed and laid a new slab patio , could see the holes , all filled in with cement , slabs laid in cement

Must try and get a new shed roof fitted in order for me to remove everything from the concrete slab thats at my back door , just bought a tarpaulin and going to try to see if I can throw it over my old shed roof temporarily for now

Sorry I’m waffling as per usual , lol

Hope u and the cats are well

Some years back - before I moved out the parents home - I told you it was a while back.
My folks bought a house that turned out to have a mouse problem, on several occasions I would be in the front room watching telly when one would scurry across the floor, our cats just ignored them, but our terrier cross would often get it.
That's when I realised that often a Terrier of any sort can be a better mouser / ratter than a well fed cat.

I have been controlling rats most of my life including my farming days. I have tried everything over the years.ln my experience nothing beats bait stations and blocks.
Topped up on a regular basis this method will solve your ratty problems.

Professional advice is worth its weight in gold.

The pest-controller who sorted our our rats had some special stainless steel wire-wool that he mixed with cement when sealing holes.

The guy at local wholesalers meant to be selling me traps said, as I'm sure I shared in another thread, that nothing works better than tinned salmon mixed with antifreeze.

The problem is you need to be sure nothing else can access it and have to not be bothered where they crawl to to die.
