Realistically how easy is it to fit side steps to D4?

I have a set of aftermarket (eBay) side steps that a mechanic freind of mine was going to fit to my 2010 D4 for me - however he's on holiday. I'm thinking about getting stuck in myself!

How easy is it? Is it just a few bolts, or is there cutting to do?

Thanks.

If they mount to the standard holes you have cutting to do

They are easy to fit and the only cutting is into the plastic sill covers. Overall about two hours if they are the same fit as LR ones. Where in Sussex are you might be able to help

Hi there - couldn't ask you t0 do that.

It's the cutting that scares me. Bolts on is fine - but irreparable cutting damage - I know if cut the wrong bit!!

When you say cutting, how much do you mean? And just plastics?

Sill covers need to come off but are pre-marked for the bits to cut out. Shouldn't be too hard or scary 😃

Oh really - that's interesting. And the will protectors are the bits of plastic on each side with the screws at the end aren't they? Are we talking Stanley knife and every screwdriver I can lay my hands on?

Okay going to go tool shipping this morning - what is the best thing to do the cutting? A small jigsaw with a wood / plastic blade? Or is there something better, will a file do it.

As the others have said, the bits you have to cut are tee shaped slots (like tetris blocks) and are subtly marked inside with injection moulding lines, I drill holes in the corners of the tee shape and join up the holes with straight cuts. The sills have captive M8 mounting points to mount the 3 brackets onto first, click the sill cover plastic back on over them with lots of hard slaps, when you lever sill covers off do it low down carefully as not to damage any paint, the tee shaped marks are very subtle sometimes, but no special tools apart from skill and bravery 😉 copper slip all bolts and its a good little job

Holes are marked on the back of the sill covers, drill small hole within the mark and then use a jig saw to cut out. You do not have to be perfect as the steps cover the cut out.
Other option is to see if anyone has a set of sill covers already cut on the forum, sometimes come up
