Really?

Another forum that I frequent but rarely post on currently has a thread running on a D3 with a suspension issue. Below are a couple of quotes from that thread regarding DTC clearing and ECU resets:

"Like I said above Disco 3 I'm unfamiliar with, but one hack is, run the engine in neutral gear, turn steering from lock to lock each way, doesn't matter which way first, do it a couple of times static and it resets the computer."

"I agree its an easy job and to reset the brain instead of a thingy me bob you can static steer side to side full lock to full lock several times. For some unknown reason this clears most fault codes and does a reset."

Really? Then why do we invest in expensive diagnostic tools when it's this simple? Wasn't aware that any such method existed, even on my primitive D2!

Unless it really is true of course - anybody here like to enlighten me?

One of the Facebook groups has a discussion where one D3 owner doesn't know what low ratio is. Banging Head

Also someone who's got a fault that front and rear screens go active when it's cold.

I vaguely recall that on my old L322 Range Rover you had to do that to reset something, but I honestly can't remember what it was.....

Those comments were made by somebody who doesn't have a Disco (quote "I joined disco3 forum some years ago for information and found it very useful but decided against buying in the end as I wanted live axles..."). Probably never even in sat one but is good at repeating rubbish he heard somewhere. That particular forum is mainly inhabited by a number of keyboard warriors and dreamers who have an opinion on everything, regardless of how credible.

Just remembered, if battery had been flat or disconnected you had to reset the steering angle sensor by running the steering from lock to lock.
That cleared the Air Susp Inactive message from the dash

So the post was partly right, to clear the displayed air suspension fault on a L322 rather than a Discovery 3

when the temperature is about 3deg C, on initial startup both front and rear screens automatically come on, and the temperature control is prioritised on warming up the engine before the cabin

I thought it was when you only had one person in the car, so a 1:7 ratio, as oppose to, say 6 people in so a 6:7 ratio Whistle
