Hi Everyone,
My first post and I wish it was under better circumstances. I've had the Disco 3 for 2 months now and only done around 2000 miles since I got it, was loving it for the first few weeks until the intermittant warning chimes started. Then I found this site and its been a great help. So thanks to all.
Now the problem, I stopped the Disco two days ago to hear the screaming sound from the EPB like so many others complain off. Problem then is it stuck on lights flashing and would not come off. After much hair pulling I read in the handbook about the emergency cable release. So went looking following the pictures in the book only to find nothing!!!! Just an electical cable and socket. Thanks to the forum I discovered its actually behind the EPB button!!!! But fortunately also through the forum discovered that by pushing down the EPB while turning on the ignition that it releases!!! Thanks everyone.
So I found this thread and since my local dealer (Bradleys, Galway) claim they are snowed under and can only fit me in if there is a cancellation!!! I took it to a local garage who also won't touch it as the main dealer told them that it has to be connected to a computer to wind back the cable to the pads? So I have a few questions, before I decide to have a go myself.
1. Does this fix require any landrover computer work as described above?
2. Will adjusting the EPB as described in post fix this screaming and locking on of EPB? ( Very much like the video but less musical)
3. The bolts in picture 2, described as 15mm double hex. What is used to remove these? A 15mm 12 point hex socket?
4. Are the "clicks" very obvious to hear and count, don't want to mess this up.

I adjusted mine a few months ago and no computer is required.
But you will need a torque wrench and a flat screwdriver.
There a directions on the site some where, ill see if i can find them.
You only need to remove the wheel to adjust the EPBPete

I see 2 torque settings mentioned 6nm and 275nm. For only adjusting the EPB what will be required and what needs torqued?
To just adjust the EPB shoes without cleaning them, you only need to take off the wheels, remove the small plastic cover and rotate the disk until you can see the adjuster (at the bottom on the nearside, and at the top on the offside (RHD)) I'm not sure if you need to loosen the allen screw by half a turn - I did this on both wheels and it made no difference to the adjustment, probably because unless the shoes are new the adjuster mechanism behind the screw is seized up.Previously:

AFAIR the largre torque number is for the amount of pressure
needed to turn the axle nut (you need a big socket)
The small number is for the locking screw.
You have to tighten the brake adjuster untill the
pressure needed to turn the axle is xx nm then back the adjuster off
8 clicks. Then retension the locking screw.

LTB00079, EPB screech on apply/while stationary.
the internal componets of the epb have over travelled & jammed,
basically use IDS test equipment to set 'unjam procedure'.
then manually clean/inspect parking brake components,
then use IDS to 'drive parking brake to latching position
clear DTC's
select low range check for noise, maybe renew epb unit.

Found this on another thread!!! Sounds exactly like my problem. There is no noise or rubbing from pads while driving only when applying EPB this bloody screaming noise from rear.
So again my question, can this be fixed by myself or will it have to go into the dealer? (My D3 is out of warranty)

Bodsy,
My EPB is no longer holding the car on v. steep hills. I imagine this mean that it needs a wee bit of adjustment to tighten it up.
Can this be done by removing the wheels, removing cap and giving a few clicks on the adjuster? Or, do I need to do the fully tighten and torque up then release 8 clicks thing?

Personally, if your taking the wheels off anyway, then it doesn't take much more to do the full 8 clicks thing than it does to do 2 and then not be sure if it's right.
I'd just push back the brake pads so they're not binding on the disk, then do the 8 clicks. Takes more time to gt he car up and wheels off than it does to do the 8 clicks adjustment. Bodsys Brake Bible

Going to replace my front and rear pads in the early New Year for preventative maintenance purposes (and to avoid having to replace sensors of course!!).
Will source the parts from our dear friend Nick - what can I expect to have to shell out? Is it necessary to get the fitting kit with replacement caliper bolts etc.?
