Cheers Disco_Mikey - I've trawled Google and can't find any exploded parts diagrams for the LR3.

Would anyone out there have any links to a diagram one that might show the rear brake assembly?

Thanks Martin - I eventually found it with those diagrams.
Its actually part of the hub assembly, HC3 arrowed in the diagram.

Does anyone know if 'HC3' is the actual part number?

Cheers

Ractchet Adjuster Question (for emergency brake pads)

I have got as far as taking the ratchet adjuster off. What I do not understand is how the ratchet adjuster turns and adjusts. There are two pieces. One side is a solid cup that sits via a slot on the brake shoe, the other with the ratchet has a screw end that fits into the cup. But there is no bolt that sits on this screw end to make the adjustment?? The ratchet end does not turn at all once it is on the brake shoe, it is a solid piece. AM I missing something very simple here?? Thanks as always for the help. I am using Bodsy's Brake Bible for this.

One side is a tube the other has a thread and adjusting nut,the nut screws up and down the shaft which when held in place by the shoes only the nut can be turned which extends or shortens the adjuster, it's possible that yours is seized in place and minimum adjustment making it look like one piece, which ever side adjuster you have you need to remove and hold the slot end and turn the adjust nut C/W to free it off

You can just see on the right one in this picture Thumbs Up

Emergency Brake adjustment ratchet

That was exactly the problem. I thought it must be something simple. Thanks for the help. I have greased them up so that next time will not have that problem.

I was referring to Mikey's pictures being crap!!

And my whole comment was kind of wrong because the bible is full of photo's...........my bad! Embarassed

I read an article a while back regarding rear brakes that only contained illustrations, I had it in my head it was the bible but just looked again and I was very wrong.

I'll get my coat.......

There was no offence intended Mikey, just my silly sense of humour!

I think it's great you took the time to do this thread.

OK, so the bible is great but I have to admit to really struggling today. I wanted to replace the pads and discs but while I was there I thought I'd check what was going on with the shoes. As it was they were in such bad condition (one side separated from the backing) that I decided to replace the shoes, lubricate and replace the springs too (I had them all in stock from a big order with AF).

With the new shoes, I completely failed to get the discs back on. I fiddled, knocked, lubricated and repositioned but the disc wedged over the shoes and wouldn't go on. In the end, on one side I stuck with the one shoes that were OK but on the nearside where the shoes had split I had to sand the shoes down to get the disc on and eve then it rubs quite badly.

What have I done wrong? I forgot to let off the little hex screw - could that give me a bit more play?
