Rear end shunt and suspension

Can anyone tell me if a moderate rear end impact would affect the air suspension on a D3?
Is there anything behind the rear bumper that could be damaged relating to the suspension?
Thanks in anticipation.

A rear end shunt may dislodge the counterweights, which would make the ride very choppy. Can't remember what connectors there are at the rear, but an impact potentially could dislodge or misalign sensors pretty much anywhere on the car.

I'm sure Ten will be along with his flipchart, laser pointer and wiring diagram in a short while. Very Happy

Not at all.
I have a policy holder who has rear ended a D3 and the owner is stating that his car is undriveable due to the suspension being damaged. Now I would have thought that a D3 would have had it's suspension components well protected considering it's intended use, and the cost of putting the third party in a hire car is huge. If I can be confident that no suspension damage could have been caused I can tell him to continue driving the car until the repairs can take place.
I hoped that a techno bod would have a good understanding of the car and been able to tell me where the plumbing runs and confirm that a rear ender would not cause the problem.
Other things seem iffy about this claim like the car was imported in Dec 06 and had a plate change in January. The strange thing is that the VIN has changed also?????
Does anyone know under which circumstances a VIN can change?
I don't.

Looks like the previous owner has taken a private plate off but not re registered the old plate back onto the car.
Maybe not as suspicious as first thought. Oh and it's a FFRR not a D3.
The car has very little damage other than a PDC sensor and a bit of paint.
The private plate has been put on an imported D3 which is nothing to do with this claim.
Thanks for your help to date guys.

As an aside, my suspension report a fault when we crashed off the road while on the Croisiere. It was fine after a reset though.

I didn't think you could change a VIN. Maybe it's been stolen and 're-born' as they say!

VIN hasn't changed after all. See Fisherman's post about it turning out to be a FFRR on a plate previously registered to a D3.

F/Man, didn't know you were in the murky world of In Sewer Ants as well?

This guy is starting to give me the right hump, he now states his reverse mirror dip doesn't work since the accident. This surely is signalled by the selection of reverse gear and has nothing to do with a minor rear end shunt???? (The position of the dip is down to the memory module???)
He still states that his suspension is faulty, and is entirely due to the knock he had. I think nhis warranty had expired and can't afford the repairs so is taking advantage of the situation.
Can anyone out there help regarding these far fetched claims?
