Rear External Worklight Install on a G4 Expo Roofrack
Got a few hours to spare on Sunday so had a go at making up a bracket for a worklight that I got from TLO as recommended by Rescue01.Its a decent light with a ball mount that allows it to be swivelled pretty much in any direction.Problem was it was designed for a Defender and as such came with a bracket for one aswell. The D3's doesnt lend itself for bolting bits on.I was Looking for something to give me a bit of light even with the rear door raised without iot smacking against it.Having an Expo Rack doesnt help either as the floor more or less covers the slotted rails and doesn't give many options forfitting mods. There are slots in the top side rails but I didn't want anything hanging out over the side.
So I had a length of 40 X 4 Alloy lying about and made up my own bracket .It simply clamps over the rear upper rail of the rack with a pivoting arm that allows the light to be swung out to the side of the door even when raised. It can slide along the lenghth of the rail itself. It sits down below the rail aswell so so shouldn't have any fear of being swiped off when offroad. Its light but robust and has adhesive backed neoprene on both sides of the clamp so it wont scratch and damage the rail.I just gave a quick few coats of matt paint last night for a few pics.Once I've messed about with it a bit more , sprung butterfly bolts on the hinge then I'll get it powdercoated.
All I used to make it was a vice , lump hammer , a piece of wood , 9mm bit , 20 mm bit.Simple stuff.Theres a few ( poor) pics in my gallery.

Nice install !!
Having a rack, I've often contemplated lights for the rear ..but this has always been compromised by likelihood of having the need to have the tailgate open. Is there any feasibility of recessing lighting into the inside tailgate moulding to overcome this do ya think ??21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Thanks lads.
DG , don't -know how much room there is behind the panel.Last and only time I had the panel partially off was for when I put on the rear ladder.
would mean you would have to have the door up to work it though ?

DG - you could possibly look at going into the pillar at the back. A few holes in there already to bolt into somehow. Might be a tidy job if it swung into the window recess
Might have a look at it myself when I get a chance.
