Very irritating that this is not screwed on in some way. Only had the car 9 months and the sticky has come off the tape holding it on to the car. What is the best way to remedy this ?

Apply new sticky furnished by your dealer. Maybe use longer strips across top and bottom.

Mine is held with sticky in each corner. And is starting to be less than stuck fast.

Kind of what I thought. Not the ideal solution for a car of this cost though. Still, mustn't grumble coz everything else is fine with the beast.

I have used some of that heavy duty velcro. its easy to remove the number plate for cleaning underneath and secured very tight

Go to Halfords and buy a few interior mirror fixing pads. These are unbelievably strong black rubber pads about 20mm x 40mm in size and as suggested designed to hold the rear-view mirror to the windscreen.
Dead good they are. Smile

The dont know its removable 8) 8) , and its actually harder to pull off than the permanently fixed adhesive pads. Not had one nicked yet and I use this on all my cars/trailers.

But yes, valid point..

My rear number plate is just stuck on as well, and every time I wash it the bl@@dy thing falls off!! The problem with sticking it on is that the tailgate skin is slightly more flexible than the reg plate which loosens the grip of the sticky stuff!!

However, if you look at the lower rear tailgate, there are 2 threaded inserts fitted into it (with black textured rubber caps over them) ready to screw the number plate to. I've also seen in one of the galleries on here, pics of a new D3 at a dealership (I think in Australia) with a bracket bolted to these 2 inserts ready to accept the reg plate, and which stands the number plate off the tailgate a little.

Frankly, I think we have been short changed slightly by our dealers. I'm going to be contacting mine pretty soon with a (very short!) list of issues - of which the rear number plate is one!!

That's where my rear plates (mine & Mrs DSL's) are screwed into.

If you're using double-sided adhesive tape, WARM the panel with a hairdryer first - in this cold weather the glue doesn't go off properly when applied to cold bodywork!!!

And mine - when I swapped the plates last week, there are a pair of grey receiving plugs which take the screws

There are new number plates that are designed to be stuck on and that get completely trashed if someone tries to remove them.
