Rear pinion seal leak
Rear diff is leaking at the pinion seal - anyone know how rough of a job that is? Just trying to figure out what the charge might be when I take it in.17 Discovery 5 HSE Si6, Fuji White on brown | 07 LR3 SE 4.4 Java Black on Alpaca

It's a remove and strip, so would assume a few hours unless you do it yourself. I think there is a "how-to" on here

Did a search on here and couldn't find anything definitive. Does the exhaust and/or the diff have to be removed? Either way my wallet is shivering... 17 Discovery 5 HSE Si6, Fuji White on brown | 07 LR3 SE 4.4 Java Black on Alpaca

The pictures show how to fix it - getting it out is something else. Someone should be able to tell you whether it can be done in place.
You maybe able to pull the prop shaft, take the plate of the input pinion and get the seal out - but not sure of that

After looking some more, it is possible to replace the pinion seal without removing diff. One makes the assumption that the diff is not overfilled.
If I was doing it, I would drain diff oil, mark the prop shaft and carrier with a dot) undo four bolts holding rear of prop shaft and move to one side. Then undo large nut on pinion shaft and take the prop shaft plate of, may need a puller. Then use a a oil seal puller (usually a long slider with a screw thread) and take out seal. replace and put all back in reverse order, making sure you torque up the pinion nut. Make sure you
use the correct amount of oil and torque the prop shaft bolts.
