Rear Spoiler - Hi- Level Light Cover |
|
What's the secret for removing the Hi-Level Brake light cover without breaking it? Is it held in with similar devices as the rear light unit? I need to remove it to rub the unit down and respray.
Thanks

Thanks Bodsy. I won't even try then. I'll just mask it up carefully. It'll be an expensive light bulb change if it ever fails though

Easiest way is to grind it off. Too much force bends the aluminium. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Well, that will be a job for the cordless dremmel then. I'll probably cut the plastic out leaving the edge stuck to the the lid and work the rest off with the dremmel or similar tool.
I have one in at a friends bodyshop being painted at the moment and he's going to get me some window sealant and primer that they use on the bonded windows. Says it cures in a fraction of the time that Sikoflex takes and we don't have to wait for the temp getting to 7oC or so for sikoflex to cure properly. ATB

It's a PITA really.
Remember to prime the plastic on the new one or the sealant won't stick to it. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

removal of rear brake light |
|
Hi
If the rear High level brake light isnt bolted from the inside and is glued in then take a heat gun and gently heat the surrounding area and get a blunt plastic pry tool and it should gently begin to come away the same as if you do the headlight conversion, time and patience should see you remove it without damaging it.
To put it back in just heat the glue up and push it back into place again
cheers
