Rear Upper Arms Replacement Time |
|
I have decided it's time to replace the rear upper arms as there's a definite rear knock that I've tolerated for far too long. Rear wheel bearings will also be done at the same time, cars on 140k and original parts so can't complain.
I already have the bearings and new back plates ( the old ones are totally shot ) and a slot booked at my local garage but I need to ensure the upper arms come with everything required so the mechanic can complete the job and not have to stop the job for the sake of a clip or washer etc.
Was going to buy this from AF: http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/kit615-re...3244-p.asp.
Can somebody advise if that's everything I'll need and that kit isn't missing anything or further advise if there's anything else required other than tools + graft?
Cheers.

I've had front lowers and rear uppers from Advanced factors and each came with everything needed.
Geoff actually did the work and uses their kits regularly so I guess one of the most
qualified on here to answer. no doubt he will pitch in when he gets a minute.

I would recommend doing the brake pipes and the hub bushes at the same time unless they've been done before IID PRO

I did both upper and lower rear hub bushes and the rear brake pipes (unlikley you would get away without doing the pipes as mine were nicely seized in the arm brackets) when doing the rear arms, including the free upper arm workout courtesy of the recip saw on the rear upper arm bolts ; it was aproximately 2 hours each to do the upper arms on my drive so should be quicker with a ramp etc I would imagine and theeeeennn......???

Even if the the bushes are ok(they'll probably be soft) the bolts are most likely seized in the centre of them.
Those are the ones, if you've got to get the alignment done it makes sense to be sure everything is factory fresh. IID PRO

Cheers, that makes sense as there will be a 4 wheel alignment completed after the install.
I'll get the upper and lower hub bushes too.
Regarding the upper and lower hub bolts, are replacements included within the arm kit? Mods:

Ian get both top & bottom knuckle joints changed at the same time, its a no brainer if your changing the backplates and the wheel bearings...
As for brake pipes if they come undone then you should be ok, but like its been mentioned above they are probably ready for changing anyway.
The kit from advanced has all you need.

My rear uppers were ruined at 11 years and 111k miles. Judged that I didn't want to attempt DIY as it all looked completley rusted/seized in at the back of my '05 D3.
Got the RRS rear upper kit from AF, along with upper hub joints and gave the job to Flack to do - so glad I did!
Car has copper lines from front to rear, and the rear flexi/solid sections on the arms themselves were replaced earlier in the year. I also had a persistent clonk, and after ARB bush and drop link replacement; it was in fact this amount of play in the video, in the rear upper arm bush when the wheel is moved between 12 and 6pm on the clock that gave the game away:

D3 in with a local Indy as Geoff has a lot on his mind at the moment.
Both rear upper arms need replacing and going for standard LR as the Lemforder, supposedly
heady duty ones from Advanced Factors have only lasted 2 years.
Not impressed.
