For info, my Alpine reversing camera has a black box in the left side cubby in the boot, power is taken from the reversing light feed on that side, single cable then hidden up to the camera mounted centrally inside the rear window... Cheers

see if your screen has a setting to reverse the image ( to mimic the rear view mirror) and this will fix the issue then rotate the cam 180 deg

That would be the only way to swap left and right, assuming you still want the car bumper to be in the top of the screen. I've seen a few camera's but can't really remember if the bumper is top or bottom...

Hi Guys,
I was curious where people have mounted their rear view cameras?
I saw one person put it up by the top break light. Has anyone located one by the license plate, or by the lower bumper? If so, how did you run the wires and do you have photos?
Thanks you guys!

TBH, I can't imagine anyone wanting the rear bumper showing at the top of the screen.
Who fitted the camera? They should be able to fix (rotate) it.
BTW, tell me you're not an Aussie.
Best Wishes,

On my D2 it was right next to the towbar but on the D3 it is on the interior trim, centrally at the top of the upper tailgate glass on the inside, looking through the swept area of the rear window. From here it seemed to me to provide a more useful perspective than from low down. It is angle to see the rear bumper/towbar at the bottom of the screen.
The single camera cable runs from the LH boot cubby (where the black box is), just inside the D-pillar trim up to the upper rear trim panel (with the rearmost interior light), then over to the tailgate and outside the trim to the camera (with enough slack to handle the movement of the upper tailgate. Cheers

Well looking at the screen on the dashboard it just seems intuitive (to me anyway) that the top of the screen represents towards the front of the car and the bottom of the screen represents towards the rear.
I am unable to rotate the camera in the housing easily without risk of too much force and so may have to look at mounting it inside the vehicle as Simonsi has. regards
Peter

Ah pbhawkin, intuition! 's funny but I don't think I've ever met two people with the same style of intuition and I've had loads of my first drafts of software rejected because of it!
If that's the way you prefer it then you may want a different camera that doesn't have the reverse image mode on it (some have a link inside them to allow this to be selected as an option), and mount it outside as you say. Many camcorders have a mirror mode - use one of these to determine what you prefer to see on screen and from that determine whether it's rotated and whether it's mirrored or not; that should help you in selecting a new camera.
From my own perspective, I prefer a reversing camera screen to mimic a reversing mirror, i.e. the bumper at the bottom and the most distant detail towards the top. Looking at the other posts, at least for once I'm not alone in this view Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

To be honest, it doesn't matter at all about where the bumper is on the screen so long as the Left and Right sides are correct. Although I am getting used to the reverse image! regards
Peter
