Rear Wheel Arch removal and Trim Replacement

Idiots Guide to Rear Wheel arch removal and trim CLB000010 replacement
Before starting this job, have to hand
Cross head screw driver
Trim Removal tool
M5 Stainless Bolts (2 * 20mm and 1 * 25 mm per wheel arch)
M5 Spire Clips (3 per wheel arch)
2 x 10g 20 mm pan head stainless screws (per wheel arch)
5 x 15mm x 1mm x M5 stainless washers (per wheel arch)
Spare Trim clips DYC101420, DYC500040 and ANR2224, as you may need some Exclamation

Lift Vehicle and remove wheel
Remove the two Cross Head screw at the front of the wheel arch

Then remove the two cross head screws and single trim clip from the back of the liner

Remove rear mud flap, two screws facing the wheel arch

Remove third mudflap screw found underneath it

Gently prise out all Three Trim clips that hold the liner to the wheel arch trim

Gently prise off the wheel arch trim, you should now have this

The liner will now be removable, I found it best to remove from mud flap end and the ease out as needed. It is very flexible so it is easy.

After inspecting body work I applied some Dinitrol just for peace of mind, but only some very minor surface rust visible Smile

You can now remove the rubber clip on trim from the front of the wheel arch, mine where shot, the inner steel had disintegrated. The land rover part number is CLB000010, these are about £12.00 plus VAT, however Freelander part number LR001623 are the same profile and are £12.99 for the two you need on EBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/311794541657?_tr...EBIDX%3AIT

These do need 2 3/4 inches removed to fit properly. Note that the rubber trim pushes down inside the cill trim.

Refitting is the reverse of the above, but I used new M5 spire clips for the front two screws and the underneath mud flap screw, changing the screws to M5 bolts, use the longer bolt for the mud flap. I also used 2 news stainless screws for the mudflap.

Job done

Just ordered up a set as mine have also fallen off, just a quick question.. the new trip is that pushing onto the wheel liner or the body?

I replaced mine last year but didn’t take all the inner wheel arch out. It fits on the body, open the rear door for access, Just pull the old ones off clean the area off put a bit of liquid soap on the end that goes down behind the sill then it will push down easily push on the rest until it’s all seated correctly, 10 mins a side tops, you don’t even need the wheel off Thumbs Up

bless u for that and most appreciated Thumbs Up

wonder if this was done from a certain year as i haven’t got any fitted on mine

assume this is done on front and rears

is it mainly to prevent any ingress of mud etc between the liner and trim plse

Its on the rears, after time the wheel arch liner sags down, so perhaps you have had new ones fitted at some point, or the liners havent sagged yet.

Job Done

Job done!

Really simple, push one off and the replacement back on, didn’t need to remove any clips or trims.

Hi all,
Just done mine. Did not remove the plastic arch or sill trim screws.
old seal pulled out from behind the sill and top trim.
Mine were all the way down behind the sill about 1.5 inch and about 0.5 inch in at the top, cut about 1 inch off the new seal.
Pulled the old one out, cleaned behind the sill trim, brushed waxoyl round the arch and into the new seal, to protect and lubricate.
Pushed the new seal down behind the sill trim beware there is a recess in the sill flange the original seal goes past.
Loose fit and check the trimming required at the top, then trim with shears.
Ease the top in behind the trim then fit the rest along the arch.
The original part for D3 costs about 40 to 50 pounds from LR dealers.
I used part LR001623 D07BEG Protector described by LR dealer as Freelander 2 Front wheel arch edge protector.
They require about 1 inch cutting off to trim them to the original part length, the profile is identical.
Price from LR dealer £8.12 plus vat
Hope this helps someone save some money LR pricing strikes again.

Regards
Bob

Reading thread above from Bob M, I visited local LR Dealer this morning and purchased 2 of the Freelander 2 Front wheel arch edge protectors LR001623 @ £7.45+VAT each and this afternoon trimmed them and fitted them this afternoon on the front of the rear wheel arches (where the rear doors close).
