Has anyone fitted, or know how to fit a rear winch to a D3. Has it been done, is it possible without losing the entire rear bumper etc Duncan

Available from where ??
It seems like a good idea, but I would have thought it may be a bit low
Whenever I have had need for a rear winch the back of the vehicle is normally under a few feet of mud.
Do you have a URL ref: Duncan

There were some on ebay the other evening, but the ones I've seen would only work with the multi-height tow hitch rather than the detachable, as they seem to rely on the backplate for mounting? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

one I've seen is the Watling one that is part of a front push towbar arrangement but looks like it has a standard tow ball and according to the application list is rated to the max towball rating? don't see why it couldn't be used at the back too?

Isn't a demountable winch rather heavy to lug out each time you use it and how the hell do you keep such a weight secure in the back?? DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Duncan,
As your question was specific to a "demountable" rear winch, I think the links above show pretty well what is available off of the shelf.
If you were to plump for any of those I feel you will also need to consider how the unit impacts on the use of the rear bottom tail gate.
Obvoiusly the higher the mount the better the departure angle off road, but the less your ould want to use the tail gate.
One method I had considered, but not yet explored, was to use the bracketry supplied by Frogs for rear high lift usage. A frame would have to be fabricated that slips in to the high lift mounts and also attaches to the rear recovery eye. The unit would then be rigid to the back bumper & would not swivel like the tow ball mounted types.
Thinking out loud.
Non Stick Nick I am a hob nobber.

Thanks, but i'm not really looking for a demountable winch. I would prefer a fixed type but cant see at the moment how this could be acheved without losing the rear bumber Duncan

Hi Blue Meanie,
This seems very cheap.

Would it be good enough for off road use? Has anyone tried it?
Seems a good compromise for someone like me who would not want to keep the winch permanently installed.

Chris,
I've not actually seen one in the metal as it were, it was one of the options that came up with a bit of Googling.
It does claim within the specs to be rated up to the max 3500kg though,
Malc and theeeeennn......???
