Rear wiper

Hello, my rear wiper on my D3 doesn't work from the switch. Plugging into diagnostics actual data shows stalk on and off so don't think its the stalk.
Putting a direct live to the wiper motor and the motor operates until live is removed. Swapped 5 pin relay with one from the front wipers and no change. Out of ideas now.

Does anyone know what the relay next to it is for?

The other relay is for towbar and caravan

On RRS the wiper won’t work it tailgate open. ( it’s disabled)

Also check fuse at front
See if power at relay
Wire broken into tailgate ?

So with the tailgate open the washer doesn’t work but doesn’t seem to make any difference to the wiper as it still does nothing.
Fuses all appear ok behind glovebox and by battery.
Relay has power but nothing comes out of the green wire which I believe is the one that powers the wiper. I thought about a broken wire in the tailgate but would like do see power coming from the main feed through the relay to the wiper but nothing

Check relay grey/pink wires have 12v on wrt chassis earth metal. (if it doesn't check Fuse 48 behind glovebox)

Measure voltage between grey/purple & grey/pink (purple should go to ground to command wiper on)
You must have the tailgates fully shut for this.
Turn ignition on and select rear wiper on. (these normally run in intermittent mode, so will blip the relay every 20 seconds or so)
If you turn the front wipers on and select reverse gear the rear wiper should copy the front wipers, which will give you a better clue when the rear relay should be clicking/operating. (it also eliminates the stalk - I know you already have)

green wire is output to the wiper motor.

You could remove the relay (vital! else you will get a short) and bridge between pink and green and see if the wiper runs.
This would prove the load side, and put the blame on the control side.

If you still can't find the problem, check the brown/green at the motor is ground when the wiper is in the parked position. It's possible the computer is too cleaver !

Thank you for your help. Checking the relay all have lives to the wires apart from the green wire and black wire. Motor works by bridging the green wire. Can’t get my head around it

If all expected feeds to the relay are live but motor only works if you bypass the relay ... surely it's a duff relay that's the problem?

Did you try another 5 pin relay ?

Did you try this :

Measure voltage between grey/purple & grey/pink (purple should go to ground to command wiper on)
You must have the tailgates fully shut for this.
Turn ignition on and select rear wiper on. (these normally run in intermittent mode, so will blip the relay every 20 seconds or so)

Do the interior lights come on with the tailgate open?

If the tailgate closed switch isn't working, the wiper wont?

Sorry for the long delay been very busy at work. I have finally got around to having a look into the wiring a bit more.
So i have found that at the relay in the boot area the grey/purple wire has no earth... i'm guessing this is earth switched from the CJB? If i give it an earth manually the wiper will work constantly and upon removing it will stop where ever it is on the window at the time.

Yes.

I guess you could see if you can find the wire at the front Cill somewhere.
See if it’s broken there

Assuming the tailgate was shut and the wiper does work when in recerrse and front wipers on (to rule out switch)

Yes tailgate was shut i have replaced both stalks to the D4 ones just recently too so narrowed that out some more.
Fingers crossed its a break and can be fixed cheaper than a CJB. Suppose i could always fit myself an earthed switch to it so i can still have a wiper when needed.

Yes a lashup is better than a CJB change.

Infact as the stalk switch, switches earth you could connect the wire to that (green/yellow?) rather than fit a new switch.

Obviously it would have no park function and run with the ignition on.
