hey,
I have bought a disco3 2007 with a seized crankshaft and I would like to know if they're okay to rebuild ? I plan on scrapping the old crankshaft with bearings, get a new crankshaft with bearings and while at it renew the head gaskets as well. is it possible, or does the crankcase warp after such damage and need a new engine block ?

Hi.. a little introduction first is always proper to do, I am sure it will bring more help reactions.
If you try the search function on this site, you will get hundreds of topics to read regarding crankshaft issues and how to solve them.. why not use it? Instead of starting topic who is covered a lot of times..
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/search.php?...rch_time=0
Regarding warping crankcases... Never heard of that, unless if the crankshaft did snapped, but with bearing seizures, no normally not..
Suc6 Best regards
Harold

I am from Germany, bought a disco3 with engine damage as it basically fulfills my needs for having a great towing car with a decent sound system, 7 seats and 3 sunroofs. I figured out if most of them have engine damage sooner or later, why not get one with a done engine and rebuild it/bulletproof it's components by adding hardened bearing caps and an upgraded oil pump while checking everything else before letting it tow.
about the warps, well we get to work on a lot of mercedes om651 2.2 diesel engines here because Germany and we get lots of warped engine blocks, even when it's not seized, but due to the heat from the bearings and the aluminum block, it tends to warp and we scrap a lot of those, so I decided to get some light on that before I start to take things apart to proceed with ordering parts in advance to save time.

Once a crank has gone usually the block is so needs a new/second hand engine as parts i believe are still hard to get hold of unless that's changed Discovery 3 se gone

Never heard of that on a clacier/white metal bearing
As they are white metal caps by design and need to be soft metal...
But again, there is a lot written on this forum, regarding options, depending on the damage on a specific engine.. you have to look inside first then decide where to opt for... Best regards

Why is everyone saying a jag Block? Are they better! We have lots of Peugeot 2.7 hdi engines here, won't they fit?

I didn't know that, thanks for the heads up. Honestly I Plan on rebuilding the engine, cause I wouldn't like buying a used one and after 10 or 20k miles the crank snaps or the engine turns our to consume oil sor something. I took the body off and it's a hefty Job, don't know why everyone says it's easy!!
I will disassemble the bottom end and decide tomorrow if I would rebuild or get a used engine and recondition it as I Plan to tow a lot with this car and wouldn't want to repeat the body off Job again
