Thanks for the advice - I'll try to hunt down some 17's with (or maybe without) tyres
Regarding ebay - is that a good place to look?

e-bay seems the best place to look, but make sure you know what you're buying and how you're going to get the tyres (d3 courier service or collect yourself)Bodsys Brake Bible
this is for 17 inch rims only, plenty of 18 inch going at the moment as well.

My Discovery has 1500 miles on the clock. It is mainly intended as a holiday vehicle with mother-in-law and 5 dogs, and to move around musicians and their instruments and PA system. But ..... for 3 days a week in the winter it will be used on farm land as a shooting wagon. Not off-roading as such, it will still have to cope with deeply muddy tracks and gateways. Question: Am I going to be embarrassed just using the Continental Contact 4X4 tyres supplied with the vehicle, or do I need a winter set of "shooting tyres"? (I had a 50th Anniversary V8 Defender for 9 years with Goodrich AT tyres which never seemed to wear, and in which I never got stuck.) Will I manage with the Continental tyres?

The continental is a good tyre on and off road.
I've gone through some serious mud in mine on standard rubber - not a problem
as you can see....
for three days a year it aint worth investing in anything else.
I have invested in some 19 inch rims and MTR's now - because i am concerned about the sidewall on the continental - but for three days a year - they'll do you fine.
