red interior lights?

Morning,

Has anyone fitted red interior lights for map reading etc? Not the centre ones, just the passenger lights.

Any pictures? Did they work well?

Any bulb suggestions?

Thanks
Nick

I just fitted red LED equivalents to all interiors in passenger compartment. Put the driver's map light back to white as occesionally I wanted good light to do something such as find the thing I dropped on the floor.

the problem with red light for map reading is that orange contour lines on standard OS maps disappear in the spectrum so you cant judge a gradient up ahead.

ive heard green light is good but never tried it so couldn't say for definite.

you may be better getting one of those flexible arm map reading lights, cover the lens in tape or something and put a pinhole (size to suit you) in the tape to allow minimal light pollution and retain the drivers night vision

Thanks both Thumbs Up

I might try red first as the small people in the back quite often like to find books or toys too.

I have yeah, for late/overnight RAYNET events they are very useful, or even if passenger wants to try and find something in bag/etc. when driving in the dark. I just got red LEDs off eBay some years ago. Work fine.

I kept one of the yelliewish original ones in the passenger side, worked a treat for looking at maps rather than being blinded by the white LED ones. Thumbs Up

A lot of cheap LED lights have pretty poor CRI so you will be better off with the old filament bulb.

I've gone for some more expensive ones on the basis that they will last longer and produce a better quality light.

Will report back on my findings when I have had a chance to install and test them Wink
