After searching multiple threads, I really didn't get a clear idea of how to properly fit the mirror back on. The passenger side popped off after backing out of my garage  while trying to avoid a skateboard on the drivers side. The mirror itself seems to be fine with no perceptible plastic damage to the back of the mirror lens. So, correct me if I'm wrong...simply push in the middle of the mirror only and pray???? Any tricks out there? 2006 D3 Tonga Green

Yes, but get it located correctly (easier said than done), and push uniformly over the centre area, apparently.
It is reputed to be tricky and I was (well-)advised on here, when buying a new one to get the dealer to fit it. If the glass breaks (not unknown) during fitting, he just gets another one out of stores . Not a lot of help in your situation, but proof it ain't easy. I guess a good dealer would do it for goodwill....  Or a few dollars more ?
I did a neighbour's FIAT one - unbroken, popped out - looked very similar to the D3 but smaller - no problem! I did use a silicon lubricant spray, too.

Thanks Andrew. It did cross my mind to use silicone. I have a great relationship with my local dealer. I just was trying to not to look completely inept if the tech repairs it in under a minute!!  2006 D3 Tonga Green
