Refitting egr pipes after blanking

I may just be a complete numpty but I'm failing to see how you secure the egr pipes at the throttle housing end. Mine were blanked so I've not got the stubs but I'm now having to put some pipes on for the MoT. Do I just leave them loose under the engine cover?
Cheers

so long as they "disappear" under the engine cover that's fine as they are not allowed to remove the cover (obviously still need the blanking plates between EGR and pipe end)

I have got no pipes on and been through an MOT twice now. The top of the engine is well covered so pipes are out of site. Give your car a good run before it goes in so its nice and hot.

new MOT rules only started on 20th May...…… the section of pipe is clearly visible from EGR to where it goes under the cover so about 8/10 inches.

I Thought it was just DPFs if tampered with can fail.

I think you will find thats changed now and they can remove covers if need be and lets be honest its 2 seconds work at the most to get it off or just lift the driver side up for a quick look see.

Quite a bit has changed depending on the year of the car, emissions have tightened quite considreably for 2008 onwards and 2014 onwards cars.
I think pre 2008 was 3.00ppm, pre 2014 is now 1.40ppm and post 2014 is adblue motors is 0.70ppm
Rev lights must now work again after a certain year
Number plate lights are no longer a fail
All the emissions kit should be present and look correct, aagain might be from a certain year but not sure?

To put it into persepcitve my mates ffrr 3.6v8 2008 but actually came into the older window, was clean enough to pass the post 2008 emissions with no issues and its egr blanked and chipped!
Apparently the 2008 crossover date is all to do with one letter in the VIN number.

Thumbs Up Thanks.

Following your link I clicked, I then checked the mot inspection manual.
8.2.1.1a looks like the part that covers egr.

8.2 Exhaust emissions
8.2.1 Spark ignition engine emissions
8.2.1.1 Exhaust emission control equipment
This inspection is only for vehicles that must have a full catalyst emissions test (disregarding the basic emissions test). You only need to check components that are visible and identifiable, such as catalytic converters, oxygen sensors, and exhaust gas recirculation valves.

Defect Category
Emission control equipment fitted by the manufacturer: missing, obviously modified or obviously defective.
Major
An induction or exhaust leak that could affect emissions levels.
Major

Just get it in 30 days before it runs out and see what happens.

Although I think what happens in a failure has change too Rolling Eyes

Damn that raises more questions, like does the D3 needs a full catalyst emsissions test? if not I wonder if blanking is in fact okay?

I mean as std it only has a DOC cat which is old tech, do old the 300tdi used to have one!

I can see your concerns, the EGR recirculation works on a cold engine to lower the NO2 levels during warmup. When the engine is at running temp, which yours will be on the test. The NO2 levels will be in spec, in my experience on testing that will be what the tester is looking for. Hard to prove EGR is not recirculating, when it passes the emission test.

blanked EGR noticed would be a major defect and cancels any remaining MOT...………….
