I have followed DSL and JF Lux around the Ulu for quite some distance and I can confirm my eye-witness account that on each occasion that the D3 failed to progress it was down to driver error.
At least when in the 2 occasions I got stuck in Tunisia it wasn't down to my tyres digging trenches and burying the car!!! Mind you those planet gripping Khumos were great for parking on your tent!!!

Now, now, you know you're dying for the Kumho "hard boy" look. The're no point poncing around the remote parts of the world on a tyre designed for Oxford Street. Do keep up, Derek.

It's not the heat on the Italian Autovia that worried me driving behind you, it was the tread blocks flying off!! We won't go too fast as you'll be leading to distract the Gendarmes!

nighthawk we digress as is often the norm here!! Some owners have had no issues, some loads. Whilst snow isn't an issue where you live, they are a great family people mover that goes where others don't and is safe as a big brick outhouse, in total comfort!

I have no major complaints about mine, just few minor things here and there. My general conclusion is that they are quirky, and will have issues, but not the type that would make them undriveable.

Thanks all. I'm a bit more confident I look forward to still reaching my preferred camping spot in total comfort, without sweating in the heat, or getting drenched by rain from the sunroof
I'll surely be back on here if I do end up getting the D3

I think there are more complaints of LR faults due to LR customers having an expectation of service (more upmarket branding?)
Here Toyota buyers will put up with poor after market service, particularly with warranty. Toyota will often refuse warranty claims saying it is normal wear and tear and owners will accept this and cough up.
Folks who have still just buy another without looking at alternatives. I have asked a lot of owners of LC200s why they got one and most have said: because I had a 100 series and just updated.
Some one bought a new 70 series ute and 5km from the delership the engine blew he did not reject the vehicle but allowed them to replace the engine. This time he got 8km from the dealership This time Toyota said that it must have been his fault and he had to argue to get a new engine.
LR owners would not wear that at all. We tend to demand ( quite rightly) better service. I think this is why there are so many complaints about dealer service levels.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

The TDV8 had issues with engines failing in early builds, high oil usage, and glazing of cylinders.
Toyota Australia had a warehous full of new engines for replacements.
They also had a recall for chassis cracking with the OEM bull bar.
If you say tell a Toyota owner about it, they won't believe you.
First builds often have problems especially with new technology. LR is no worse than others for reliability much has to do with perception and with LR history. I suspose with Toyotas reputation for quality it may take a few years for buyers to relise they are not as reliable anymore.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
