Remote locking/unlocking - not |
|
One evening late last week I went to go out in the Disco, and it wouldn't unlock. Tried both keys, nothing. Was in a hurry, so took the other car...
Next morning, fine, no problems.
Yesterday, came back from a long run, emptied the boot, went to lock it - and nothing. Hour later, tried again - worked fine. Tried the other fob - also fine.
This morning, same again, neither fob working.
Apologies if this has been covered before - but nothing jumped out at me in a search though.
I did flatten the battery last weekend - leaving doors and boot open for several hours - but its been fine since, and this seems to be an intermittent problem.
I assume it is the car end - as both fobs either work or don't...
Any ideas?! Its a bit of a worry - so far it hasn't stranded me, but its only a matter of time! (That said, I assume I could still use the key to override...)

Right, came home at lunchtime - still not working.
Came home this evening, thought I'd have a play getting in with the key, and the fob worked. Tried the other, thats fine too. Left it half an hour, still working.
I know owning an LR is supposed to be challenging, but seriously?

I wonder if your remote is being jammed by a local strong signal....
Try opening the car with the remote next to the car.

We had the same thing happen to someone in the spanish forum the other day.
It's still being investigated, but some options to consider:
1. Is the vehicle battery good (i.e not more than 4 years old and not recently been flattened)?
2. Have you had any water ingress into the roof area lately due to the heavy rain? (sun roof fitted?)
3. It could maybe be worth having a look at the RF receiver in the roof lining and see if there is anything funny going on with the connectors? If you remove the 2nd row courtesy lamp panel, it is about 30cm to the right and you can see if easily through the panel hole with a torch. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Thanks for the replies!
I had wondered if it was being jammed somehow - have had it at work a couple of times parking too close to a radar! But have walked all around the car and held the thing over the roof now too! (Its currently not working, having been okay all evening).
I do have a sunroof, but all seems dry. I have a funny noise after trapping a leaf in the mechanism - but that's a different story!
The battery is almost certainly the original, and will now be 5 years old (I'm a 2005 HSE, Buck Blue, 95k miles!). And I did flatten it last weekend... So I'm guessing this is self inflicted!
I might have a poke around up there tomorrow if this goes on...
As an asside, my other car is an XKR, which just happens to take exactly the same battery - good old JLR. So it wouldn't be the end of the world to buy a new one... Any recomendations? I see Halfrauds are doing a Bosch which sounds good...
Ta,
Gareth

Re battery, I think that battery is actually an 850cca and the LR is a 950cca.
Just buy a LR one
Ian.

I was having similar problems with the locking over the past wee while and looks like my battery is fooked so replacement should hopefully cure the issue. A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.

The battery for the TDV6 was 850A / 90Ah up until MY06 at which point they changed to a 950A / 90Ah with this new one also being the replacement for the older type (which was discontinued). 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

LR Battery it is then - and I'll try for the later higher cap one.
As an asside, I did a hard reset at lunctime - following the excellent instructions on here.
Both remotes worked for about half an hour. Then both stopped. And haven't worked since!
Is this a good sign, or a bad sign?!
Cheers all,
G

en, sounds like it's still battery issue.... Reset would have got rid of any stored power and now the battery is likely to be back down on power you have the same issues again.

Okay, just spoken to T H Whites at Wootton Basett.
Chap in parts could not have been more helpful. Very impressed!
Popping over tomorrow. Around £117 - which seems reasonable, and is cheaper than lower spec batteries from elsewhere...
Will keep you posted on outcome!
Cheers,
G

Sigh...
New battery fitted. Both remotes worked straight away.
For about half an hour.
In to the T H Whites I expect next...
