Hi All,
In Ireland all Discovery HSE's I believe are badged SE. Before I picked mine up from dealership I asked them to supply the H or HSE badge. They obliged but put a RRSport HSE Badge on instead the lettering is similar but different to the original lettering. Can any advise best method of removing this without damaging the paint?
Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by HSE's badged a SE's. I do know that myself and a friend of mine both bought the 07 Limited edition from the same dealer and theirs is badged SE and mine is just TDV6. My previous SE was badged S so I think it is the luck of the draw. 1993 Defender 110 300tdi - many mods

Hi Yawl,
It may have changed but when I spoke with LR Dealer back in 2004 when Disco3 was Launched he advised me for Tax purposes that badging would be different.
i.e S would be SE
SE would be HSE
Cheers

Count yourself priviledged to get a badge , mines an S+ and didnt even get a badge
To answer your question on how to remove , I've heard that a heat gun run over the lettering to soften the adhesive on the 3M tape that holds the lettering on and then passing a length of catgut down behind the letter, like a cheesewire to release. A hairdryer if you haven't gota gun.
I presume that there would be an amount of glue left behind and perhaps a little elbow grease or an application of a very gentle glue remover is used.
TBH I did consider removing my LAND ROVER lettering from the bonnet and placing it on the nudge bar but I opted to buy a new set instead and leave the original in place.

The thing is, an Irish HSE is the same as a UK SE, so at one point (and possibly still even now), they come into the country correctly badged as a SE. The dealer/importers then rebadge them as HSE. At one point in 2005, the HSE badges were out of stock, and a good few were sold without being rebadged. That's what a salesman in a LR dealer here told me anyway when I was looking to buy one last year.
So anyway, after realising that there was no chance of getting a second hand HSE with all the bits here in Ireland, I went and got mine in the UK.
The reason the Irish limited editions aren't badged is because there is no LR badge with 'LE'. The limited edition models, from a UK perspective is a base model with certain option packages such as bright pack and retrofit leather. IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
SA - 07 VW Golf TDI - White - Sold!

HSE badge on ebay if anyone's interested. I think it's for the D3 but I stand to be corrected.

G, at the time, there were only 2 second hand HSEs for sale on carzone - one TDV6 with 50K KMs on it for €70K, and a UK spec V8 (i.e. HSE with premium sat nav, logic 7, sunroof, etc) with 5K KM for €70K. I thought long and hard about the V8, but in the end decided that it wouldn't be worth it in the long term with the miles I was doing at the time (would have suited me more recently though!). I was considering waiting around for a few more HSEs to appear second hand, but really wanted a few things like the premium sat nav with 4x4 info and logic 7, which the odds of getting here were slim unless ordered as options.
So, decided to investigate UK options, and including VRT (€20K), I got a UK HSE with 15K miles for around €67k including all expenses (flight, ferry, etc).
Luckily I got a quick private sale on my old TD5 for very good money, though if I had to end up stuck with it for a few weeks/months, it would have quickly become a pain that I wouldn't have had if I'd part-exchanged it at an Irish dealer.
If I was buying new (which I'll probably do next time), I'll definatly be trying to give the Irish dealers a chance to quote, and if there's one or 2k in the difference, I'd probably stay local, as in the long term it'd probably be paid back - e.g. may get treated a bit better - would be more entitled to shout at them if there were problems , etc. Also, some potential buyers don't like imports, so it could be more difficult to sell an imported D3 - and you can't exactly sell it in the UK, as you'll 'loose' the VRT money! IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
SA - 07 VW Golf TDI - White - Sold!

Brendan , hypothetically if an UK dealer was to stamp the V5 or registration documents for an HSE as an S or SE and if it was debadged and transported to here, do you think it would be possible to save a LOT more on the EXTORTIONATE VRT . I realise when going to sell the reg documents here would state it as being a lesser spec model and a little would be lost on a resale ,
I have brought over vehicles in the past and on inspection at our local Revenue Comms they were none the least thorough !

D, nowhere on the registration documents, UK or Irish was HSE mentioned. I was too honest when registering it according to some! IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

Too right you were Although Sods law if you weren't honest you would have been found out if you had done .I'm seriously considering it for the future if our locals can't make a decent offer.

I even specified HSE on the first registration documents (the ones you bring to the motor tax office a few days after paying the VRT), but they said it wasn't on the system, only Discovery 3 TDV6... IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
