No they are definately for Aerodynamics. Landrover says they smooth the flow of air under the vehicle reducing drag and increasing stability at speed Disco 4 Sept 09

If I remember correctly, the approach angle hasn't changed between D3 & D4? So, why should the spoiler be a problem while off-roading?
