3rd time at the dealer although 13th time of this fault !!!
Key in ignition turn to start position, all lights on like a good´un but no start, just nothing.
After the 3rd time with this problem I quickly realized that the recovery guys just disconnected the battery to make a simple reset and all was OK: Back to the dealer each time for full system tests and nothing found,
Now had
Battery replaced
Keys replaced (thought it was not communicating with immobiliser)
New software several times
New immobiliser thingy
Something replaced related to the gearbox, linked to PARK mode but my French is not good enough to comprende
Now I resort to having a 13mm spanner in the drivers door bin for the soft reset in case of non starts.
It gets changed on Friday anyway, but I am still puzzled by the problem.
PS. It´s an 05 and it seams that 05´s have more elec issues ?

Nigel,
It happened to me couple of times. I turn the key, everything looks fine, ligths are on and they go off (airbag, etc) and when I turned the key nothing happened.
First time I was baffled, but I tried to start it again taking the key out and put it back in and repeating the start up and it worked. After that I realized that the first time the key did not switch off properly the immobilizer and it was still active (got flashing "immobilizer light" on the dash).
This happens once per month, I just take the key out and insert it again and it works.
I do not know you have a similar problem, or more serious one.

I had a simular problem several times. You try to start everything looks normal. I turn the key to start it and nothing happens. I switch it off and try to restart without removing the key and the engine goes on.
To be honnest most of the times it happened when I was in a hurry. And maybe when you try to switch it on too fast the immobiliser isn't swithed off. It's only a fraction of a second I guess. My Kyoto is fantastic

From new i used to have the same problem - 50% of the time it went dead on the first attempt and then started on the next attempt. Then after about 3 months it progressively got worse where on a couple of occasions it would take about 15 attempts to get it start - waiting for everything to initialize first made no difference.
Took it back to the dealer but they couldn't find anything wrong - for want of anything else to do they did a system resync (well thats what they told me). Since then the problem seems to have gone away. 2007 TDV6 XS Cairns Blue
