What to replace when both airbags came out

Hi,

I'm currently rebuilding my D4 after a little accident which has caused that both my airbags have popped out...

Before I put both airbags back in, I want to make sure that I don't need to replace anything else (such as sensors somewhere)?

Just don't want to see that after having replaced all interior parts that both airbags come out again because of a dodgy sensor or so that had to be replaced...

thx

H.

This really is a specialist task as airbags are incredibly dangerous items to work with, especially if you have reason to believe that they deployed inappropriately.

100% as Robbie says, but......I can understand you wanting to have a go Thumbs Up
You don't say which air bags have been fired, none the less the air bag module is designed render itself useless once operated which means a new module at around £500 Shocked and it will need programing to the vehicle, but talk to these people Airbagsforsale.com they could well reset it for you at a fraction of that.
The airbag module works like the black box on aircraft, it records all pre-accident and other information, including speed at point off activation, direction of impact, vehicle VIN. and then locks itself to prevent this information being tampered with.
If the airbags have been fired you will also need new seat belt pre-tensioners, which means you will also need new seat belts, you will need new seat belts anyway as they lock on impact and cannot be reset without specialist knowledge and equipment, again Airbagsforsale.com may be able to help.
A lot of older vehicles are written off purely because the air bags have been deployed and the excessive cost to replace.
It is also recommended to change all air when a vehicle is 10 years old Shocked
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

On some vehicles the information is also stored in various ECU's which gives fault codes for these, not sure if that is the case with the D4 but it is also some of the reason cars are written off. Friend had a 6 month old Audi written off as the two dash air bags had gone off and all ECU's needed replaceing or re-programing which reulted in the car being written off.

hmm thanks for your help!

both passenger and drivers airbag have gone off... but not the curtain or seat airbags.

Vehicle still drives as normal (drove it home after accident and to the workshop +/- 5 miles and felt normal).

Will contact the guys at airbagsforsale.com to see what they can do, thanks for that link!

You will have to replace the front crash sensor, the seatbelt tensioners and both airbags before you can reset or replace the RCM.

I'm guessing that the RCM itself is suspect if the impact was so benign. The RCM should have retained all sensed conditions at the time of 'impact' and it will be interesting to see what sort of impact the RCM thought it was having. There is also the chance of an underlying SRS wiring issue.
