Replaced handbrake shoes now won’t go back together

I replaced the handbrake shoes but I can’t get the disc back on. The top fits ok but the bottom is about 3mm out from the stud. I’ve tried wiggling it into place giving it a tap on the shoes to seat them properly but still won’t go anywhere near. Any ideas?

Don’t have access to an IID Big Cry managed to get the offside on but the near side is even worse. Had to be done the pads had disintegrated. Wish I’d of taken it to a garage now. Oh well you live and learn. Any other ideas bar the IID?

Did you make sure that the wedges in the adjuster are fully backed off, as sometimes these are not fully off.
And dont adjust anything until both disc's are fitted.

Flack Thumbs Up

I've done it easily without using IID

There is a thumb wheel (maybe at the top) to adjust how hard the brake is on. near the spring I think. (well is on a vauxhall Laughing )

You need to back the brake off, then put the disc on.
There is a hole in the disc to adjust the brake back on with a screw driver clicking it round

The adjuster is wound all the way in! The disc will partially go over one side of the shoes but is too far off the other side.

Is there a way to manually release the handbrake cable? It’s like the handbrake is on but only in the passenger side

When you get the disc half on the one side can’t you push it over into the middle?

I recall I had to do this to center the shoes

I assume the disc came off easily so should go back on without moving the cable !

There is a second adjuster WEDGE often missed. Make sure this is slackened and you may give yourself enough leaway to give the drum clearance.
If you do get this back together, I suggest getting the car on a suitable tool to get the mechanism back to setting mode, then readjust the shoes. This will be both adjustments on shoes; the wheel, and the allen bolt.
The shoes have to be done right or it can cause issues of excessive wear/binding or locking on.

This is the allen bolt for the wedge adjuster.
