Replacement Hitachi compressor
Morning all,
I've been diagnosed with a broken suspension compressor and advised to replace it. The warranty company have allowed me £470 for the claim but I'm struggling to get it supplied and fitted for that. Can anyone suggest where I could get a cheap Hitachi direct replacement for an '07 TDV6. Also the local 4x4 specialist says I need to plug in to tell it to work, is this right as I thought it was just plug and play.
You could try site sponsors Advanced Factors for the supply but, even with the 5% discount for forum members, you're not left with much for fitting. That said, I replaced the AMK compressor on my D4 recently and it was a couple of hour job, even for a novice like me!!!

If fitting the AMK compressor, the software requires an upgrade to match. This can be done by someone with an IID Pro diagnostic tool. Thanks for the link, I got one from LR direct in the end as they were still a bit cheaper even with the 5% off: Just looking for a mobile mechanic to fit it now.

Hi Rob,
It was a Dunlop and a straight swap for the original, except that it wasn't the original as the previous owner had stuck a re-con unit in it which is probably why it failed. I googled quite a bit for Dunlop comps and most people are happy with them, even the more expensive ones fail too. I paid about £300 inc VAT for mine plus £100 for a chap to fit it, it didn't come with the relay as advertised but I didn't need it anyway. You can get cheaper off ebay but LR direct's customer service is very good, I had an issue because the delivery driver signed for it himself and left it outside on the step and it was promptly knicked, LRD investigated and replaced it FOC. The mechanic that fitted it said that Hitachi / Dunlop type compressors aren't strong enough, but I'm happy with mine as it has a two year warranty and I'll probably change the disco in that time anyway. My local indy wanted £660 to fit a Hitachi unit and nearly £1K for the upgraded pump, if you're a bit handy you can do it yourself for the price of a pump and three captive nut things that are 50p each.

I'm also thinking the AMK upgrade doesn't seem worth the extra. LR Direct seem to do a genuine Hitachi for £440inc vat and John Craddock are advertising a pump made in Japan by Hitachi for £260+vat. That seems a bit too good to be true?
