replacing front door actuator
Gday All,
I have seen a few how too's on how to replace the actuators but it always the rear doors where the window only has 1 plastic clip.
How the hell do you release the 2 clips on the front window. spent ages just trying to retract my arm from the speaker hole whilst trying to feel for what was stopping the window from releasing. I suppose there is a special L/R tool I need...
Thanks and Cheers Bulletman

No special tool needed. After you have removed the bolts from the window mechanism, lower window around 3 inches (helps if some one can hold the window), put hand and arm inside speaker hole and you can release both of them, then take mechanism out. Keeping hold of window. Lift window right up and either tape it with Gaffa tape or use small wedges to stop it falling down. I found it easier if you also remove the outer handle after the window mechanism, some people do not remove it but then getting the cable off is a PIA. There are instructions for front doors on this site

Thanks for the reply , So you unbolt the window mechanism first , I assume that's so it can drop a bit allowing you a fraction more room to work in.
The how too's I seen the mechanism stays in the door. I will do a bit more searching.
Thanks and Cheers

Hi
Ref the clips, hopefully the pics will help u
I also bought some window suckers which made the job a lot easier than messing around with tape , found the single window suckers better than the twin ones because of the curve of the glass
Also easier to remove the front window track that the glass runs inside

Thanks for the link , helped out a lot. So the cable that goes from the inside door handle to the actuator , the plastic lug where the small cable tie is has broken in half. Is this a cause of the door not locking , or is the actuator stuffed and the cable as well. ?
Thanks and cheers Bulletman

Hiya
Glad it helped
Cable will just be to open the door so sounds like the actuator if it’s not locking , would also be tempted to replace the cable if it’s worn in any way so it’s done and dusted

If you have problems from inside, lower the window about half way, remove the window bottom rubber outer seal, it’s held on with one screw at the front and from outside slide a 12” steel rule or similar down to release one clip, hold the glass up slightly while the second clip is released and the window glass can then be lifted out completely.
To replace, the glass just slides back into place and locks into the white clips.
In my experience it has always been the motor with the brass worm drive gear on the end that has failed mainly through being gunked up with carbon, it is comparatively easy to open it up and de-gunk it with electrical solvent cleaner, methylated spirit or petrol, not wd40 and it will give it another lease of life, alternately a new motor can be fitted very cheaply, I always keep one or two for spares.
It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I've never been able to disconnect the short cable from the outer door handle, so always struggled faffing around with the actuator stuck with little room to move. What's the trick?

Hiya
Does this help
With a small flatblade screwdriver you need to open up the two clips on the side marked the the pink arrow. Levering them part, away from the metal plate, should allow the clip to release. Take your time doing this as the clip appears fragile!
