Replacing interior wood trim on my 06 HSE
My 2006 HSE was fitted with factory wood trim that had severely faded over time. The trim consisted of 3 veneer pieces that were glued on top of the normal grey/black trim pieces: the center stack, and left and right a/c vents:
I looked for used OEM replacement items, but they were rare (read: expensive) and would likely also fade over time anyway. So I researched and found an aftermarket solution that uses a 3-piece kit with simulated woodgrain.
The kit is contoured to the factory trim and required that I remove the OEM veneer, which I did (carefully) pry off with a plastic paint scraper and some adhensive remover.
The new pieces go right on easily with sticky backing tape. Here is the new vs old:
I think it looks excellent against my beige/black interior, and most importantly it has held up for 2+ years with no fading whatsoever.
Here are some more pics:

The original wood had lost its fight with UV rays, certainly. The clear finish had started to turn hazy/milky. I think the wood kit was a dealer add-on in the States pre-2008, before the redesigned console with the factory wood trim on HSE level.
