"Residual Heating" while Stationary & Park Heating/Venting
Great feature available on new Range Rovers. My new 2017 VW California Beach has it and gives back engine heat for up to 40 minutes! Just press "REST" button when engine off. (Rest button on Heating & Ventilation Menu on Screen for Land Rovers)
Drive into a beachside car park in winter to watch the sea and get 40 minutes heating with the engine off...
Does anybody have it on a D4 or D5?

I loved this in my M5, instant heat on a cold morning. Mind you the D3 has pretty quick defrosting thanks to Ford's heated screen which BMW could not copy as Ford had the copyright IIRC.Series 1 V8

"Instant Heat on a Cold Morning"
Confused I am talking about using residual engine heat to warm the cars interior - there will be no residual heat in the engine first thing on a cold morning?

I have ‘manual heat’ button on the D4 timed climate screen, did the same thing on Sunday evening whilst SWMBO was taking the dog around the local field for 20 minutes trying to convince it to go for a
Toasty warm. Worked well but seemed to go off after 10 mins or so. Maybe the engine cooled down too much?D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

Does "Manual Heat" not just turn on the FBH to create the heat (Rather than setting the FBH timer)
I don't think this a "REST" heating system (ie - that simply uses existing residual engine heat. Not FBH)

No, Manual Heat uses the residual heat from the engine D4 MY14 XXV - RLD/IID BT

OK so that button only works with an already hot engine and there is no non-timed on button for the FBH.

I am sure you correct however Land Rover manual seems to say that the manual Heat button is to manually do exactly what the timed climate function does... (Could Manual vent be the residual feature)

I am with Gary on this one
I thought the Manual Heat fired the FBH instead of having to set the timer
The Merc is Residual heat have used it a couple of times if swmbo "pops" into a shop
