Resonant Transmission Noise

Hello all

I posted a note in the General section a month back by way of intro. Thanks to brucezcults and SIL4 for their replies.

I did take the plunge and bought a D3 TDV6 Manual registered Jan 2007 on a 56 plate, 24k miles. Deal was right and I thought low miles, I cannot go wrong.

Must say enjoy driving the car and it returns 34+ mpg if I stick to a maximum of 70mph on my 170mile regular journey to Leeds. Space inside car is fantastic.

However the car has developed an annoying resonant droan at 60 to 70mph and sometimes I can feel a slight vibration through seat and steering wheel. If I put on cruise at 70mph it is easy to hear noise constantly. The noise appears to be coming from the front as best I can tell.

I am constantly listening now. and sometimes think I can hear noises in lower gears when speeding up.

If I dip the clutch the noise goes away.

Reading the forum two thoughts come to mind differential or propshaft?

It is really annoying and wearing and is currenlty spoiling a good car.

Any help or ideas would be very much appreciated.

I have spent a lot of time on the forum browsing and must say it is very good with lots of very knowledgeable people posting great information.

Thanks in anticipation

Chris
