Retro Fit for Parking Sensors? |
|
About to buy a used D3 without some required toys. Can parking sensors be retro fitted DIY or is it a stealer job? Supplying main dealer says no probs, (£183, which seems reasonable, but are they LR or..) other nearer home says not available.. Doh.. Make the most of this life, you may not have a Landy or skis in the next one.

If a dealer can fit, then there should be no reason why you can't DIY at a considerable saving, contact nick at Yeovil LR parts 'TLO' on here, for parts at discount. but . . you'll need someone who has access to the diagnostic system IDS to enable, or possibly 'Faultmate MVS' can also do, give 'Wiggs' a PM and see what he thinks, he a real GURU for all things D3 electronic, and has a Faultmate system.
Fairly sure ALL UK spec (cold climate) D3's have FBH fitted - look under the bonnet to see if you have, it will be on the nearside, just behind the NS headlight, but if not, to fit one would probably be very expensive, unless you simply have a aftermarket one fitted. Never get mad - get even !!
06 D3 now gone to family member and still going strong at 265k
previous vehicles:
04 D2 TD5 - (clocked 189k from new)
52 X-Trail 2.2 SVE
various euro boxes !

Thanks guys. Salesman just emailed and he said that an outside contractor fits the sensors for them. This seems to indicate that they are non-LR and that I could do a DIY fit at any time. Seen kits online a few mins ago.. I have only put a deposit on the car so I haven't yet seen it. It's 500 miles away! Looks good, though. Know where to look for the FBH as my last D3 had one.. i doubt that will be genuine install
4 x sensors at retail are £155 plus you need the bezels and a new wiring loom in the bumper
so all those prices add up to over the fitted price they quoted without any labour
i expect it will be either a layon type sensor or a 1 size fits all kit from somewhere TLO has left the building.......
I no longer work for a Landrover Dealer

Yes, you're correct. Just heard back with a 'you'll never notice the difference' note.. Hmm, think I may as well do it myself.. Make the most of this life, you may not have a Landy or skis in the next one.

I bought a set from 'Fleabay' for £30. fit them myself in under 1 hour, took the live from the reverse light. I placed the bleeper in rear pocket where the jack lives. Its lasted 2 years and still going strong. Set came with a drill bit for the holes in the bumper.
