Nope, as I already knew both front middles were clicking with my ear up against them, and that they were now working as they should be (with the bumper dropped down to the chair) I thought the deserved another chance as they seemed not to be faulty (unless they are both somehow broken inside and only triggered when pointing up a hill). And they did work properly on the driveway until I went for a spin.

Can I just ask, did the front sensors work fine on the driveway when testing in a reverse or forward gear with the engine off?

Just because sensors click it doesn’t mean they work perfectly

I'm beginning to appreciate that now They did work fine on the driveway and even with the engine running but as soon as I took it on road, did a u-turn an pointed it up hill ...
Waiting for the rain to stop so I can get out and drop the bumper again to switch those inner sensors.

Yeah. Sometimes you’d think they were fine and then drive 20 yards down the road and they would play up again. If you look at the graphs on my other post you’ll see also that all the sensors were going crazy when the bad sensor was plugged in.2005 Discovery 3 HSE

Okay, so some success.
I dropped the bumper again today and swapped out the two inner sensors. Tested and all fine. Put everything back on and tested again, still all good. Went for a spin and tried parking close up to a couple of cars (had live values on IID at the same time) and again, all good!
Oddly though on my return to the house I was reversing onto the drive when I got a fault. Don't remember the wording exactly but basically suggested one of the front sensors was not connected properly. Switched the car off and on and the fault was gone. Went for another spin and again everything okay except for the occasional random beep.
I'm inclined to settle for this as a victory for now, at least until it starts random beeping all the time again. Seems to me there must be fault in one of the looms or the parking aid module.

you will get the odd random beep caused by cyclists or busses etc.

Interested to see how this pans out. My last large 4x4 ended up with some interesting patina on the corners courtesy of the Mrs. This could well be a worthwhile retrofit!

Back again
So the random beeping wasn't when something was passing, just random when active. Not long after my last post I got a couple of faults:
B1B57-11 and B1B58-11 reporting both front and back "General electrical failure - circuit short to ground".
I disabled the front sensors but the faults remained. I then disconnected the front sensor loom plug under the headlight and the faults have gone.
Am I right then to assume that the brand new loom is somehow shorting somewhere? I was careful not to nip this anywhere but you can't be 100% sure as you can't see when putting the bumper back in position. I have already replaced the two inner sensors for a different brand so surely it isn't the sensors.
Just wondering what the best next step is to fault find.
My own thoughts were to remove the loom and perform continuity tests on each connection to see if there is a break somewhere.

I see from the wiring diagram that each sensor has its own specific wire and then two others (brown & black) which all return to, I imagine, the same coloured pin on the loom plug. I am relatively knew to multimeters and electrical issues etc but I know it has a continuity setting.
My plan is to test:
* each coloured wire from each main loom plug pin to the sensor plug pin.
* from the main loom plug brown pin to each sensor's brown pin
* from the main loom plug black pin to each sensor's black pin
Does that all sound like the right approach? Is there anything else I should/can test?

That is a very kind offer. I do have fogs also and the loom I bought is the combined one. However I'm South East so over an hour away. I'll see how I get on with the multimeter. If I have continuity on all wires, then the loom has to be good right? Then I'll have to remove the sensors, connect them back up and see if moving them around causes a short. Failing that, I'll have to check the loom(s) from under headlight back to the module.

Unplug the two outer ones (I think that is easy with the fogs out)
Plug the loom back in
Leave fronts disabled.
Clear codes
Drive like that for a bit
And see if that short code returns. If no, plug in one side again and drive for a week.
Etc
